I've put a lot of work into this section of our website and I'm proud of it.

I'd be delighted if this was of use to new you new players and would be grateful for any feedback both good and negative.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! The learning curve for this game is HUGE but the very complexity that's driving you barking mad right now is what will keep you entranced for years. I've been playing this game for nearly two years and can't even be bothered to play anything else. That's saying something.

The above man is insane.

This is not an understatement.

Please do not assume he knows anything relevant to new players.

Thank you DeMichael and thank you to all the people who are reading our Very First Steps guide. Finally all that hard work is benefitting more people than just the folks in my corp.

Not bad. If I do say so myself. (Oh, and I do. I do.)

Do not use do do twice in one line of text.

Intresting links though, +1

One thing though, when renaming ships, if it's a Logi then just putting your toons name helps a bit for the logi chain.

Will read more later.

Use do do twice in one line of text? I do do that don't I?

Good point about the logi ship name but won't the enemy learn your name means logi and be on the lookout for you?

Guys! I'm blown away at how many hits. Wow. Oh! Oh! I got some likes. I am NOT blushing. Guess you do attract more flies with honey.

OK. So..... I gotta think about this. Part 2? If you add too much to your "very first steps" they become more than very first......

You guys keep encouraging me by using my stuff and I'll just keep writing more.

Today's handy tip for new players:

Salvage as soon as possible. Lots of cash in that. Half or more of the cash from missions is from salvage which includes emptying the cargo holds of the wrecks. ISK!

See ya tomorrow. Shocked

Xan! You got off to such a good start. You even spelled and used the word relevant correctly. So far so good.

But you don't tell them why I'm insane. Xan. Please: In your own words?

Very nice effort, I think it is a very nice introduction to the game, will have people avoiding many mistakes, the only remark would be in the layout, it's really not fun to read, the colors are not convenient for such a large body of text and threre is a lack of grafix (yes, I like to look at pretty pictures Shocked ).

You mention voice comms, but provide no links to getting on voice comms.

"ISP Service Charge" should be "CSPA Charge" (or CONCORD Spam Protection Act). Appropriate link: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/CSPA#Communication_Settings

You waffle in the section about essential support skills. Trim the verbiage to something simple like, "focus on the Core Competency - Standard" certificate as soon as you can.

You waffle about specialisation and neural remaps. I'd suggest putting the "Core Competency - Standard" recommendation, "specialise first" and "only fiddle with neural remaps after you've consulted EVEMon" together into one paragraph.

"EVEfit" should be "EVE Fitting Tool" or "EFT". Use the same terminology as everyone else in the game, don't go making up your own names for someone else's tool unless you're deliberately obfuscating communications. I would recommend putting this section immediately after EVEMon so the two tools aren't separated by your waffle about neural remaps and specialisation.

The section on Travel Time needs to be reworded. It's confusing as to what you consider boring.

The EVE Forums are their own section now, they are no longer part of "EVE Insider", and the link to the forums is now "https://forums.eveonline.com/"

You confusingly link to the EVElopedia article on Jump Clones when you mention medical clones. Better link is http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Cloning

You already link to the New Citizens Useful Threads page, yet you post many of the links that are there. This contributes to a very long article, which means someone looking at your page as a new player will be overwhelmed with information.

And of course you just can't help spamming your corp recruitment page on the New Citizens Useful Threads page. If you do it, everyone else will do it and that page will become useless. Please don't do that.

I'd also suggest turning your headings into links (e.g.: in the racial ship section, turn the "Caldari" heading into the link to the article about Caldari ships). This increases the prominence of the heading and reduces the confusion caused by the bright blue distracting the eye from the green body text.

Speaking of which, green on grey is not a particularly helpful colour scheme.

I feel dirty from reading that guide. I'm off to have a shower, more to add later.

There's a thread "The Corporation and the New Capsuleer" which may be worth following or contributing to, assuming you don't want to use the Recruitment forum for recruitment purposes.

You've also referred to your writeup as a "step by step" guide, when it's more of a "Read Me First" document providing general advice. The "Your First Days In Space" article on EVElopedia also provides more general advice, and tries to limit that advice to what is immediately applicable to new players.

Commentary on EVEMon, skill queues and neural remaps is probably best left for "your second week in space" or something similar. New players will not suffer from a sub-optimal training plan in their first week or two. If the character is being created for a very specific purpose such as lighting cynos from a covert ops frigate, the chances are the owner won't be reading a "new player" guide of any kind! The advice I would give new players about neural remaps is: "don't" :)

More later.
