EVE Race in an Astroid Belt

Hi Pilots!

I came up with an idea to fly a race in EVE. So EVE races had been organized before, but it was all about jumping and flying from one point in the universe to another.

My idea has nothing to do with warping through many systems as possible. What I thought of is a race track in the old fashion way. We anchored some security cans and filled them with bookmarks. The average distance between two cans is about 30-40km. It is far enough to make an MWD useful but short enought to require some flying skills and a good knowledge of your ship. Furthermore by placing the cans around the astroids, it isn't paying out to take a shortcut since the can are ordered in a kind of a circle (classic race track shape).

It is very tricky to fly this track in the best possible time, because one has to know how fast the ship slows down and to click in the right direction. I assume the fitting of the ship has to be chosen wisely as well so the technical part isn't to small as well.
The goal is to get a bookmark with a certain code (for verification purposes) from every can. In the end one has to place all bookmarks plus one with his name in the finish can. A referee has the can open, so he sees who put them in the can at first.

I just set up a small track in a System near Jita, but I can imagine, to build bigger tracks, for longer races. The actual racetime would be about 1 or 2 minutes.

What do you think about it? I appreciate your opinion!

IMO: This needlessly complicates existing sub-warp race formats (yes not all races were about jumping around). I want to focus on cornering and speed and engine management, not fumbling around with bookmarks.

The idea of building tracks in an asteroid field is something I've played around with in my head as well, but considering the "bump fields" are not visible, I don't think many serious sub-warp racers would like it, at least not the ones who oppose to the luck factor in those races.
I would give it a try though (sans bookmarks).

P.S. Race organizers would probably be better of working together, considering the current interest and workload. I know Benilopax could use some help. For more info, see below.
