Why so much miner hate?

I'm curious. How does player A, who mines, effect, you, Player B, who absolutely abhors asteroids? Is it because you live in nullsec and you feel you're missing out on someone who could be a possible target? Or are a lot of people feeling extra trolly? I wanna know.

People hate miners for several reasons. A) They are easy to hate. B) HIgh Sec miners are so averse to risk that when they are killed they whine to CCP about it. C) Miners are like the nerds in high school. (See A).

People who mine for pure isk these days are kind of the lowest common denominator. Because there isn't much money to be made in mining right now, and AFK ratting is so easy, there really isn't an excuse for people to be mining.

I love how gankers, whom the game mechanics heavily favor, like to say "risk averse" as though:

a.) They know what it means.

b.) It's not what they are.

Don't you?

About the OP - There isn't a lot of hate for miners. There's a vocal few trying to use the forum to make it seem like there is, 'cause they don't want anyone fixing their "risky" gameplay...ganking miners...by making things difficult for them...like treating them as the criminals they are so proud to be.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

We need some A/B details in that post so that we can A) properly sum up the level of hate and B) diagnose the root cause of it all

I quite enjoy it. I've always been an industrialist kind of character in games.

Yeah, cause like no one needs ISK in EVE. I buy ships with tears. Roll

I personally do not mine and frankly lack the patience to do so. I couldn’t sub to a game just to watch a movie while waiting on mining lasers to tap out. But I don’t hate miners and see little point in ganking them. I’m more the sort to quietly wait and watch for someone to bring that prized Proteus out to play when considering a sport target. So why do I think some hate miners? Because it is an ISK faucet that requires little actual playing (and some would say skill) to tap and is a predominantly PVE activity in what a select group considers a PVP oriented game. They are easy kills for taking something away from another player in a PVP environment to say that you’ve won one today, just another kill mail to point to.

I think it has a lot to do with the rampant botting in high. I started as a high sec miner and I still mine in high with alts to build capitals and ships for my friends and myself.

Personally if I suspect a bot I will gank them or report them.

Its because mining was designed for bots by CCP so players could blob on their mains. CCP never expected anyone to be stupid to manually do a task for botting... the anti-miner hate is actually rough love, we are trying to stop you stupidly mining when mining was never meant as a game mechanic for actual players.

Miners are the equivalent to uneducated poor people in real life.

You may say in outrage, "How derogatory!". Let me break it down then.

uneducated in real life = knows next to nothing beyond popular culture absorbed through media. ignorant of so many things in life.

miners in eve = know next to nothing beyond mining. ignorant of majority of possibilities in eve

poor in rl = can't afford luxuries. usually works for minimal wage or close to. personal damage to property or other financial loss hurts

miners in eve = works for minimal wage. can't afford luxuries like a jump freighter to haul around empire afk just because it has double the HP of a freighter. personal damage to e-property hurts.

Both have a predisposition to providing tears.

I think it's more like, there isn't much miners can do back. Miners are deathly important to eve. If I could, I'd try to defend them. Alas, gankers are so fast, there isn't much I can do to defend a hulk.

Lots of people love miners. They mine all that juicy tritanium that is in everyone's ships. They are also sitting in nice juicy loot pinatas full of yummy strip miners and carebear tears.

Most minerals come from reprocessed drone poo and reprocessed mission loot. Just saying...

PVP in high sec is a joke. People pick on miners because they enjoy pampers and hate a fair fight.
