Hey there.
So, here are my questions :

- What's the best SB in your opinion, and why ? How would you fit it?
- Can someone still un-cloak you when going near you (2km)?
- Can you warp / MWD while cloaked?
- Skills of a good SB?
- Tips and tricks? other things to know? Maybe a link to a recent guide?

Thanks by advance.

purifier and hound, because they can be fit best for solo - 2 ballistics + MSE tank.
Yes, uncloaking range is still 2km, but no cloaker will decloak you anymore since one of the recent patches.
warp cloaked yes, no cloaked MWDing. But usually you fit AB instead of MWD, gives you a better speed tank and leaves you more room to fit the rest.
Important skils: missile support V, covert ops V very important, good shield skills (shield upgrades V).

Tips and tricks:
take the proper racial bomber for the region you want to hunt, fly there, catch a ratter in a battlecruiser/battleship/marauder and give him your torps. With a proper racial bomber I mean bombers which deal a different damage of the rats in the area you are flying to - generally purifier in the northern regions, hound in the south.
The rest is all the matter of experience.

In a bubbled gatecamp you always cloak, ab and reapproach gate, jump back. Dont try to escape unless you know what you're doing.

Dont ever even think about messing with cruiser sized ships or smaller, unless you know very well what you're doing (ratting ishtars die sometimes, as well as Tengus). Said ships out for pvp will kill you and aren't worth the risk at all.

I've done a bomber vid ages ago but which is still working like this:

you have no clue about bombers.
solo bombing is cr*p and only kills unsuspecting noobs in frigates or destroyers.
torps are f*cking great solo, I've killed tons of big **** with solo bomber - read battlecruisers, marauders, battleships, industrials, orcas. You just need to know how to fly a bomber.

You're an idiot. A solo bomber doesn't kill crap with bombs.

For solo work, leave the bomb launcher at home. Grab your purifier, fit 2x BCS IIs and whatever fitting mod you need in the lows, prop mod, MSE II, TP, 3x T2 or arbalest launchers with CN torps, cloak, and core probe launcher. Now drop in 1 each of the missile damage rigs. Congrats, you/re now doing ~550dps, can survive for a time vs small drones, can evade most large turrets and missiles, and can probe out the sites that PLEx0rs like the most.

Everyone plz ignore (recommend blocking) Mordeth. His advice is the absolute worst for a solo bomber I have ever read on any site or forum.

Purifier is the best because of damage type bonus and fitting resources. Nemesis has terrible fitting resources, and thus is the worst. Manticore makes a great fleet bomber, as said above. Hound is good as well. But lacks the mids for EWAR.

Thanks for the thread guys. It has galvanised me into action, and to try a little bit of bomber play.
I'm at a bit of a "What will I do now?" hiatus and reading here has prompted me, last night, to recall some clones from null and perform neurosurgery to give them bomb / torp related bonuses, put together a pair of bombers (hounds) and a blockade runner for logistics support, and head out looking for some low-end w-systems to try harass.

I'm going to try a two-ship multibox hound ‘fleet’. Atm both have bombs (electron), torps (nova), & MWD, with the rest being a polycarbon and bay loader rig, 2 x nano II and 1 x BCU II, and a small cap booster II (75s). One has a 30km point and the other a meta-4 painter. The fits are about as tight as I can squeeze without spending 100+m on high-end grid implants.

Now, all I have to do is get some kills and not die too often.

Thanks for the info and the debate … yes, all sides of those debates are useful.

p.s. I was surprised last night, as I was setting up the Hounds, to find no damage type bonuses. Am I correct in remembering that my hounds-of-days-gone-by had explosive damage bonuses, or is that just fanciful remmberings?
[EDIT] Yes, thanks. Those bonuses were there, all the time. I must have just been too tired when I was setting up those ships. Racial damagae bonuses for both bombs and torps.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Thanks. I have both bomb types with me, altho mostly electrons. I'll try one of each bomb type to start with and follow-up with nova torps from both.

I've found myself a target system (big requirement was active at similar times to me ... and it took me a dozen systems to find one with NPC-kill peaks not at euro/us peak times) and have staked it out and observed habits. Now to actually try and kill something ... small to start with I guess.
My intended first target is their scanner guy who seems to warp to the same spot to scan each day ... and lingered long enough uncloaked for me to ninja a bookmark.
My target system contains several corps and their POSes, and they all call themselves PvPers in their corp descriptions 9and their KBs suggest there's a bit of truth to the claims). So i figure I'll have targets but they're more likely to kill me in return than otherwise.

Baby-stuff for all you veteran PvPers ... but quite exciting for this carebear-in-a-hound Big smile

btw, I have been steered to this ( http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/combat_record.php?type=player&name=polletjepikhaar ) ... and am very impressed. His loss records show that he's using a basic setup with no bomb, but take a look at his kills. Whatever ppl want to poo-poo (e.g. some empty fit kills and the like) I am still very impressed with his efforts. Mebbe i am just easy to impress Smile

What about stealth bombers in smaller, roaming pvp gangs? What are their typical roles in this scale of pvp?

Substantia, I think your on the right path, and will have some great bomber experiences, personally I don’t fly with empties but I have recommended fits with empty slots, and it’s all about the benefit of the mod VS its price.

Ikel, small bomber gangs are great, the hard part is effectively merging them in to a small gang due to being uncloaked if your with 2k of someone else, so you might not have the surprise factor and be called primary, but they are GREAT DPS ships especially against BC or larger, or cruisers and frigs if you have target painters and webs. Bombs would also be tricky since their 15km blast radius hurts anyone in that range friendly or not, but can be done effectively and obviously torps are a must for those.

The Hound is the best, followed by the Purifier, the Manticore and the Nemesis. Keep in mind though, the class is unique and all ships are functional within the class-defined role. That means being the worst isn't really a massively impeding problem since you don't compete with outside classes for your role; while your class is quite potent at what it does.

The Hound fire EX against armor-ships, has the better slot allocation (lows = fitting) and the best fitting options.
The Purifier fire EM against shield-ships, has the better slot allocation (lows = fitting) alright fitting options.
The Manticore fire KN which meet few resistance holes, has the lesser slot allocation, alright fitting options.
The Nemesis fire TH which meet few resistance holes, has the less slot allocation and the worst fitting options.

You still get uncloaked at 2km, but no longer by other bombers in warp-in.

You can warp but not MWD. You can still however burn your MWD, cut it with your cloak and coast cloaked.

The new SB use Torpedos and Covert cloaks, apart from that they are still the same; so general damage, targetting, ew and frigate tank-mobility mods is what you want to train for.

There are many things to mention regarding tips and tricks, but there is one thing in particular i'd like to lift out: despite being around for quite some time, there is alot of potential in Bombers that are not being explored. We're looking at a ship that is balanced around crutched bonuses (the core stats are weak, which is balanced by massive bonuses and key modules).

The result of that is that there is alot of volume and stacking to draw on that will enable you to do some pretty exciting things if you explore them to extremes - the cloak and small frame also allow you to explore extremes with some degree of safety (eg., you're a cloaky frigate with performance reminiscent of larger, more expensive, ships - investing in expensive implants can have a massive effect on your output while your cost-risk-perf is relatively low).

Understanding the environment and other Covert-oriented ships also enable alot of intricate tactics that very few groups have played around with (understanding distances, warp-mechanics and so on...). Look at how your range scales, how your damage scales and how you can intergrate with Blackops, bubble-immune Tech III, bomb-range to missile-range, rolling warp-points, probes, bonuses and topped off Recons. Many of these things are very underutilized, and bombers are still mostly just used to to drop-gank or bomb-trap, the basics of the design.

I'm not going to get into an protracted arguement about what a Good solo bomber pilot can do, ill just provide examples, of course this is also situational and you have to know what you are doing:

Any one have any experance with after burner, senser boosting, torp manicors well using ECM bombs? I don't have the bomb skill up enuff for try outs on the test server. But on papper 12 of them with damps scripted to lock time should be a nightmare for any group in cruisers and up, well the SB should make hitting the acsedently hitting each other not so bad.
Thoughts?

Woo hoo!! The carebear-in-hound just got a first bomber kill ... but of course it didn't go down quite as planned. Blow-by-blow to follow.

The plan was to ambush their scanner guy, since he seemed to use the same spot and wasn't terribly disciplined with his cloaking. I figured that was a good starter target.

First I waited, waited, and waited and just when i'd decided he was out Friday nite boozing and was about to head off myself, there he is warping into the POS in a sleipnir. I am **not** gonna try kill a sleipnir! Then, thankfully, he swaps to that nice little scanner buzzard.

So one of me sits near the POS watching him while the other warps to 32km from his expected scanning safespot.

Waiting, waiting, waiting ... and he does nothing.

Then he warps away in the wrong direction. Damn!!

Don't know what he was doing but no probes appeared. thankfully he was back pretty soon.

The inconsiderate sod then did not scan ... the cheek. He swapped to a blockade runner and warped off somewhere else. He engaged cloak, so there didn't seem much chance i'd catch and kill him in that.

A little while later he's back at the POS and swapping into a deep space transport. Hek!! I only have a single point and am not gonna stop that from warping away even if I found it.

he's to-and-fro into and out of the POS. I assume he's doing his daily PI or something.

By now I am getting a bit despondent. All this ground work and i'm not gonna get to shoot anything.

He lingers in the POS for a while then swaps to a drake. Can I kill a drake?? I'm sure a competent PvPer could, but can **I** kill a drake?

The drake warps out and one of me does the rounds and finally locates him working a mag site. Hmmm, can i do this?

So I warp in to nearby and sneakily slowboat to about 40km from where he's working. Then the other me follows from a slightly different direction.

We wait as he (damn slowly) clears the site. He gets to the final wave and it proves too tough for him ... he warps out Sad

A minute later he warps back in, in a raven! Oh shoot, I am not gonna be able to kill a sleeper fit raven. Those shields will just laugh at me. I watch as he cruise missiles the BSs to death and then as the hobgoblin Is come out to clear the frigs. I remembered you all saying warrior IIs were my enemy and figured goblin Is were not such a threat. Will I? Won't I? Will I? You prolly all remember the feeling. I was nervous, my heart was racing, and I was sweating ... FFS it's only a game idiot!!

One sleeper frig to go. Hell, what have I got to lose? It's almost zero chance he's fitted to scram or point me and the cruises are not gonna hit well enough to one-shot me even if I messup.

I align to him and just as the last frig dies I'm at 30km. I uncloak, target lock, gang-load point and torps, and let bomb fly. Everything works, despite my shaking fingers :-) The other me then does the same, but makes sure the painter has cycled before releasing the bomb. For all that tank the shields just melted. I turned from orbit and let a second bomb fly. It took him to mid-structure and he ejected. Couldn't get a lock before the pod warped but the raven went boom a second or so later. I got to loot the ship (nothing particularly nice) **and** his cleared sleeper site.

So the first bomber kill for this carebear-in-a-hound was a raven. I kinda like the ring to that.

We've anchored a can, just to keep them on edge thinking we're still there watching and waiting, and hopped out to hisec to go find another target system. So far I am liking this stealth bomber business very much Smile

Now I am spamming the battleclinic killboards wanting to see my uber kill appear ... damn slow that Oops

I primarilly fly with an AB. Its wonderful for getting under guns, negating missile dmg ect. (the whole getting caught at gates ect iv never found to be a problem, if they have an ista lock inti a mwd isnt going to save you)
The Sensor damp/Sensor Boost stealth bomber is pretty speciallised. It needs another guy to tackle and does wonders with T2 torps (60km range ftw) (also this is where i would use a mwd)
There are 2 times i have used an ECM bomb. The first was pissing off a fleet flight by just jamming EVERYONE Twisted. the second was coming to an sos of a friendly ratter CNR, dropped bomb everyone jammed, he jumped out, i save the day Big smile

First, congrats on your first kill. Nicely done to take down a Raven.

Be careful about using different bomb types. If they arrive at/near the same time, the first one to explode will kill the second one. Look at the damage resist profile of the bombs. They have 99.5% resists to the type of damage they do, and none to the others.

Congrats on your first kill. I have been chasing after the holy grail (bs) of solo bomber kills for awhile. So big congrats on your first Raven,

Now for learning.

This pilot was clearly a r*tard (the kill still counts and is still awesome) but you want to learn what went wrong and why you should have died / he should have lived.

At 30k you are way too far away. A good pilot will always be aligned to a celestrial or station in case someone like you pops up. He should have been warping with his setup. (tells you a lot about 0.0 pilots though huh)

That is why you NEED to be within point range immediately upon decloak. 2nd, I have no clue how you managed to launch 2 bombs before you got a point on him. Again congrats but this is not the norm, so make better use of your torps by overheating your torps when you start and make sure you have nanite repair paste. You should have been able to kill the raven without a second bomb (and it matters when you are far from high sec) it takes time to get back into a 0.0 system.

Now that you have been spotted you will need to adjust your tactics as he will be on alert and anyone in his corp (does he have one) will know about you. Watch for bait.

Again CONGRATS the rush of your first solo bomber encounter is always the best.
