So when can we expect an Android client?

CCP already has clients for Mac so they do want to be cross platform. A linux client isn't needed since wine works with this game so well. Since some of these android devices are getting beefy when can we expect a native android eve client?

Things are only impossible until they are not.

If you found any android device that have full support for DX10, then you can ask that.

Confirming DX10 is the only api for 3d graphics.

*facepalm*

Yes, they can rewrite the game from scratch. No new features for two years.

I would imagine ccp isolated game logic from rendering so they only need to tinker with the rendering part.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

Didnt they had some kind of tablet client already? I can remember a movie with EVe on a tablet. (I think it was fake but still :P)

There's not a tablet on the market today that could handle Eve.

the HTC one x and a few other dual/quad core android phones are actually capable of running linux ubuntu on them

its only a matter of time before wine will run smoothly on an android phone with ubuntu installed

see: http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android/features-and-specs

the only drawback will be lack of sm4 support on android phones. If they (the phone makers) ever do make a deal with either AMD (ATI) or nVidia then it might be possible run eve on a linux phone or even a win7/win8 phone

Everytime you buy something that says "made in china" you are helping the rising unemployment in your own country unless you are from china, Buy locally produced goods and help create more jobs.

Actually, my ancient Touch Pro 2 (which was actually a 600MHz windows mobile 6 phone) could run a real linux install, but no way in hell that would come even close to running eve.

There has been an android version that ran on TEGRA2 at a fanfest once, but no-one has really heard anything from that since. I guess an eventual android client will not mean a full-fledged eve client, but more of an eve-lite thing: Chat with corpmates, do eve-mail stuff, setup and change market-orders, basicly everything you can do in station.

I dont expect we will see a full eve client for mobile devices in the next 5 years.

Lol that exact same mobile idea was tossed arround years ago for the old Dell Axim X50v (the first PDA with a real GPU in it) Love the little thing but nothing ever came of it. (at least to the public)

I am actually really looking out for the future Windows 8 Tabs/Slates. While the ARM Tabs may be a while out till EVE can run on them well, I really think a good Windows 8 Slate mightbe perfect for lite EVE use and the touchscreen design would actually work great with EVE's UI. I have been wanting to get my hands on one for a while now but want to wait till Win8 and the Slate market really grows a bit. $1200 for a current Samsung i5 powered slate is a bit much with only intigrated HD3000 graphics (while it would run EVE just fine).

I am hoping that a sort of "Gaming" Slate makes an appearance from the likes of Razor or anyone really with a dedicated GPU. Considering a Slate is only a Laptop without a keyboard at times, I don't think they wait will be too much longer.

Issue here is that most handheld devices are running Linux and ARM not x86 for what EVE is coded for. And running an emulator for CPU and then run wine on top of that to run EVE will be painfully slow.

So you need a x86 laptop or tablet/phone running Linux with Wine and then running EVE but again, since x86 are not really best for handheld devices that wont happen any time soon.

What CCP needs to think about is a minimal client for Android/Linux running under OpenGL ES for stuff like market chat and minimal things. And if possible then slowly develop it to a full fledged client if possible. I know that Vendetta online got this but they also started with OpenGL and not closed down to Direct 3d as CCP is with EVE

Why do i get the feeling you have little experiance running eve in wine.

PS: Some things dont work at all (like the ingame browser) and in my case the game has stability issues which i dont have when I run on my very similer window's box.

But as for an android client. It would be excellent but i cant see a FULL client coming in the near future. A streamlined client would be great.

Would still prefer linux support again though like the good ol' days.

When can we get Eve Online for the new iPad with awesome screen resolution? Oh, and my Sinclair ZX-81 still works... when can I get EveO on streaming tape for that?

Why would you want EVE on a mobile/ tablet? The screens are just far to small and touch screens won't really work with EVE anyway.

Tablets work awesome. Phones not so much.
I have done remote desktop to eve from a tablet before works not too bad.
