After playing WoW for years, I can say it was hard (see version 1.12 and before) then afterwards Blizz decided to stop catering to "hardcore" gamers, but started catering to...well...everyone else. Sure they got a large playerbase, but on that same note, the average IQ of that game is about 85-90.

EVE is the definition of hard. I have yet to meet 12-something year olds in this game. All I ever encounter is lawyers, post-secondary students, miltary personal, russians (the ones who evolved from bears) and etc. The only way for alot of this game to make any sense is when most of the player base is completely drunk off their asses.

Essentually, CCP is going to have to go out of their way to simplify this game to the point where the average WoW-*** can play...

It's generally frowned upon to be on the drink at work.

CCP do listen to you as long as your concerns are resonable and they do a lot of work behind the scene to keep in touch of what is going on in the game. The amount of contact between us and them is something that just doesn't happen in other games apart from one that has a very small comunity.

I know the game is not perfect, the PVE is just... dull there are too many bots and the UI is out of control and patch days seem to be a trial. EVE will never be the perfect game or the most popular one but it's community and CCP makes it by far the most dynamic, interesting and complex games out there. Lets celebrate that while we spy, steal, pod and scam each other.

While there are a great many nitpickers, many players address real issues. I'll agree that the amount of contact between players and developers has improved greatly.

As for the renaming of mods: It's not that they're being renamed. CCP is taking steps in the right direction, however, they're renaming is almost completely trivial with the exception of implants and it's only partially effective specifically the numbering scheme. The implant names however, hardly indicate their purpose. The numbering scheme does indicate important information. Beyond what slot and what % bonus, there's really no other information to be had from it.

As for module renaming.....photon scattering array or em ward, if you can learn one, you can learn the other. The idea of having to relearn these names after the entirety of the game's existence, well, is kinda pointless. Trauma missiles or Scourge missiles.....what information is gleaned there to indicate function, nothing. All damage types will cause traumas, will they not? So, what's the point of that specific renaming? None that I can see other than to rename it. That's what many people are "nitpicking" CCP for doing. This kind of functionless change is "nitpicking" the playerbase.

But apparently forum trawling is perfectly acceptable.

A friend recently gave me a free week of WoW.

I played a grand total of 20 minutes. EVE is not becoming WoW. WoW is becoming... Candyland.

so... what your saying is... we should all start playing wow.

I don't know why, but I burst out laughing when I read this.

While finding a way to get Noobs who just got into EVE to stay in EVE will be a tough nut to crack while keeping the "Hardcore" Crowd happy, it wouldn't be so bad to include some of what has "worked" for other MMO's in EVE. The question is "How?"

Being a spaceship game with virtually unlimited possibility and always "ON" PVP, trying to make it easy for the casual gamer to get into the game and actually take a sec to finally see what it offers someone is a tough task. The New Noobships, the Career agents, and heck Corps like E-Uni and RvB are all reasonably good, but I think there does need to be an easier way to truely make it simple for a new player to figure out where he is, what he wants to do, and how to do it.

Some random though that comes to mind...

Possibly instead of the usual Noob Corp in the same space as everyone else, there could be "Starter Space". A small cluster of systems (3-4 ish) that is a mix of high sec, low sec, and nul sec (1 0.0 sys) for the sole purpose of getting a noob acquainted to exactly what goes on in each system. There would have to be a cluster for each race as well

Within these systems, the Agents/Tutorial would guide you through the basics of what you may find (Currently) within each system as well as give players a chance to PVP, mine, do whatever within said systems. (With limited Mods/ships available, say nothing above T1 and nothing larger than a Destroyer). Once a player feels ready to head out into the real Galaxy, you cannot return to said "noob system".

This would sort of cover the mix of countering "Noob Ganking" (except for those that have new chars left in there for the said task of ganking) but also with the limited ships, mods, skills, you would have a hard time doing it solo once the "noob" catches on ;)

The other thing would possibly be the bringing over of a more public "Looking for Gang" ability. So that players can look for a fleet in public or otherwise to tackle whatever task they may want. In the Noob system, this could be used and learned through the Tutorial to tackle say a mission or whatnot in the lowsec/nulsec system. Sure you may/may not be able to trust someone in this world of EVE, but it could give the noobs some idea of what to expect, and overall even outside of the noob systems, give players another way to look for others randomly to hopefully get a useful group to tackle a tough task/mission/etc.

In a way this "Looking for Gang/Fleet" tool could also be used in Incursions now (and Faction War? I dono as I haven't journeyed into that area of EVE yet). Instead of just spamming the chat, one could be looking for an Incursion fleet, have info on the ship/fitting and possibly past Incursion experience (how many of each they have done, FC or not, etc)

This would hopefully speed up the time it takes to form a fleet and again, help newer players into the fray.

Another though for PVE that might also attract noob a smidge. Possibly increasing the interaction of some Missions. Making it so that there is a little more interaction with NPC's such as Escort Missions, Base assaults with allied NPC's (with time deadlines and bonus for remaining friendly NPC's) etc. There would be no way the NPC could do the job without you, but it would give the player some feeling the the EVE universe was a bit more "alive" outside of just the Players alone. Also think about good level 4/5's that would require multiple players to complete? It would be a nice change of pace outside of the simple Shoot this to spawn this (and they spawn out of thin air? At least have a warp in or possibly undock out of said hiding place) and loot this missions. It would be a step back for the usual Blitz players, but then again... We could also throw in the wrench of killing the allied NPC's/escort haulers/etc that could change the outcome of the mission, (dynamic mission change or dynamic choices for different mission outcomes?) I am guessing there would need to be some core adjustments to the game to make something like this

TL:DR Thinking of ways to make Noobs feel at home, easier for players to interact overall, and while making PVE less drull. Not to lure away fron Nullsec, but to possibly make LowSec/HighSec a bit more fun while Nullsec Sov Changes also make Null more fun.

Hmm.. Random Tuesday brainstorm but there is what came out of the braincloud

There are some dungeons in WoW that only a few guilds have managed to complete.

What crack are you smoking? I played for about a year and a half from Burning Crusade through the end of Lich King, and there was not any content that was "too hard" for most people to complete. I quit just before whatever came after Lich King because, well WoW is pretty much a theme park, crap game.

And now a word from Mass Attack: "carebears attitude is the ultimate don't care, and there isn't anything you can do short of dying of starvation, next to a pack of cheetos, that will demostrate a don't care level beyond that of the carebear.
