CCP needs to focus on EVE, and doesn't anyone else see the oddity of creating TWO different human scaled environments, one a basic and boring "walking in stations" for its original playerbase on the MMO side, and then a large scale first person shooter (reminding me of Battlefield 2142) for a completely new (not yet existent playerbase)?

Why not just make "walking in stations" this new first person shooter, and make it PART of EVE instead of a separate game? Icarna could have been Dust, making EVE one step closer to a real-life-future-spaceship MMO that goes all the way from infantry on the ground, to Titans in the sky... wouldn't THAT be so amazing? Wouldn't you guys want that?

Because it's easier and faster

If DUST was actually within EVE it's release date would be set at 2015 not a little later this year. DUST took ages as it was, don't make my wait even longer.... CCP also stated that they intend to merge and add to the DUST/EVE mechanic over the next five years anyway. All that time you can be shooting people in the face or in a pod.

I also think you do need to do a little more research into game engines, computing power and server mechanics for the grandiose ideas. Don't get me wrong, I like them. But without any realistic approach to the ideas there isn't much point in discussing them. ALSO DUST IS FREE! Just go get a second hand PS3 (if you don't have one) for blu-ray + media centre and play it. It's free-er than Incarna was!

I know it's not a confirmed PC release but I think CCP understands that the PS3 has a limited life and I wouldn't doubt that at the very end of it they could simply re-release DUST for PC (or another console for that matter, WiiU?). Also if the game fails badly on PS3 they will likely try to revive it on the PC, considering the amount of money it cost to make. All we can really do is sit back and wait.

On a side note. **** YEAH DUST 514 IS FREE!


Probably it will keep on console...as stated before... it may never go to PC....(It would need a monstrous anti-hack system,..

I'm so 100% right about this that anyone who doesn't agree should go play call of duty or whatever game PS3 has because you obviously don't care about EVE.

Since CCP seem to want dust to become a permanent part of Eve it would make sense to port it eventually, since all console games tend to have a much shorter life span. Hopefully if they do port it they'll also have ironed out the bugs by then.

Either that or it will be yet another terrible console port and we'll all shun it, I suppose it depends how much money CCP get from the console release. And whether they decided to actually port it, or continue it as a series via the playstation platform.

Hinting and doing are two different things.

Much like hinting at wanting to try Eve and actually playing it on a monthly basis.

Eve is about Capital ships, WiS, Boobs, PI and Isk!

WHY on earth would you create a FPS that's supposedly going to be linked directly to a PC-MMO, that you can't play on PC?

Well, not so much mad, more disappointed that CCP cannot see the bleeding obvious. Dust will be released full of great features that allow it to tie in with Eve itself, and for the first two months, it will be great, lots of Eve/Dust interplay going on. Then CoD reskin 8 will be released, and the Dust players will leave en masse. CCP will have their cash influx, but will be left with a huge whole in the Eve universe from where the Dust players used to exist. And Dust will be written off as a huge failure long term, CCP will lay off another 20% of its staff, and make the usual noises about listening to their player base and correcting their mistakes.

You're probably right about that, even if its not COD that does it, PS3 players are not going to eat Dust up, and its not going to be a popular game.

It would be much more successful on PC, and has much more relevance since the entire EVE community is PC gamers.

Posting in yet another "why isn't DUST on PC" thread.

DUST is on PS3 and not PC because CCP want's to get money from another demographic not more money from the same demographic. Simple as that.

Also if they release it for PC, I would assume that pc players could fight against ps3 players, and that would royally screw over either A: pc players, because devs cba to make a decent gui for computers like all other console titles. B: the ps3 players, because an fps player with a mouse and keyboard can easily roflwtfpwn any and everything that uses a hand-held controller. Or C: both of the above

One thing that's probably worth pointing out is that people may be reading too much in to that, they may easily have meant they added it for the benefit of the PC fan base.

Yea we would rolfwtfpwn them with mouse and keyboard, as for the controls being limited to the amount of buttons on a PS3 controller, that isn't TOO bad for us PC players...

Games like Mass Effect, Skyrim... hmm trying to think of others, ah GTA IV, were made for console commands and GUI, but it doesn't bother me that much on PC, the games are still fun and its kind of nice knowing that I'm 420% better than the Xbox players at all these games.

Nicely put and of course you could be right on the money with this one. But considering and the re-packaging, re-releases and re-skinning games get these days I would be shocked if CCP didn't widen their market soon after the initial PS3 launch. I mean, HD Shadow of the Colossus and Boishock's PS3 release after it was said to be a Microsoft only game. It just makes sense to try and release a game on every possible system that can play it. Xbox Live can't (for now) because CCP would have to use their servers, not Tranquillity. Had this not been the case then an Xbox version would be on the cards already, and may still be if Microsoft realises they've just lost a whole sub-genre of console MMO's to Sony (thus giving PS3 a much longer life with many MMO ports).

You forget that the MOVE control system will absolutely pwn any mouse+keyboard! LOLHACKS
But seriously go troll a CoD forum. Or are you so short sighted you can't read the addition of keyboard and mouse to DUST on the PS3 has been stated at their GDC press release?

(Posting in a thread about DUST, which had a big promotion and press release that almost no one else knows about Wheeee)

This is what's going to happen to Dust:

1. It gets released on PS3 (duh) - For a short while there is an influx of random people playing it, but mostly EVE players.
2. Random ppl gets bored because its not as competitive as say CoD. So they leave.
3. EVE players feels that CCP has abandoned one of their core promises, never charge extra for an expansion. (For EVE)
4. EVE players start unsubscribing from both EVE and Dust.
5. EVE fails, there is no Fanfest 2013.


Let me clarify my point of view. Although I sympathies with CCP on wanting to break into a different market, this is not the correct way to do that.
Consoles has always been a substandard platform for gaming, and only hipsters and console-fanboi's will tell you something else. Don't get me wrong, you wouldn't want to play WII sports on a PC. But you sure as hell don't want to play a RTS or a FPS or anything else except a board-game; on a Console.
Dust is very similar to Planetside, which is now getting a reboot thanks to Sony (Coincidence? I think not) But PS is a PC game - and lets be honest (for those who bothered to play it) it was excellent. It offered something that no other FPS game could at the time; forced cooperation ;)

I think Dust in of its self is a great idea. Just keep it away from those stupid consoles. And release it for PC.
CCP: It's not about the money, its just that we hate consoles. And we don't like it when you try to wiggle your way out of your own promises.

dust isn't eve.

That's the first thing you need to get into your head. CCP is not creating an eve replacement. they are creating a new game which better suits the mass console player base rather than the pc base. and why shouldn't they branch into a bigger market. lets face it the pc gaming market isn't what it used to be.

you need to stop looking at dust as an extention eve and more of an addition too.

also your subs have nothing to do with future expansion of ccp's buisness. its their money not yours. time is all your getting and everything else is a free bonus.
