(1) - " an error occured whiledownloading the installer payload."

(2)"Click here to download manually" ---<< Lather rinse repeat --->> same result when clicked..

the EVE online setup is failing almost immediately and sending me the message (1). so I click the link below and download the three files into the same folder and then click the executable. after running the executable, I get the same msg (1).

I tried the new patch and the new installer failed to install. forcing me to try another route. I deleted my eve files and cleaned my registry then restarted. then I tried the process above 4 times. with the same results.

what am I doing wrong?
should I try again with chrome closed? (two files seem to be linked to chrome)
any thoughts on how to get back online? *startin to get the eve itch :P lol .. I n-n-n-nee-need to get on! lol

after realizing the reason the files were connected to chrome was that were still in fact downloading rar files (facepalms) I let them DL and placed them in a folder together with the executable, and ran the exe. worked fo about 30 seconds then got another message: (1) - " Archive extraction failed: 3" ----whatever the F*** that means! What?
and the reliable cycling (2) "click here to download manually"

so here I am attempting again!..

any thoughts?

I'm getting lots of feedback from my corporation members explaining similar problems.. with files 2 and 3. one kept trying and it eventually worked. however navigating to the destination install folder over and over makes me wanna slap a DEV very hard for my troubles.. I'm very frustrated with the patch and its ability to install directly over the existing. I'm very new to Eve and am Not in any way enjoying the trouble I'm going through to keep consistency on my training. Is there another way??

Seems to be working fine for my buddies with Windows XP 32 bit OS more than the guys with WINDOWS 7 ultimate 64 bit (like me)

I have the same problem with the updating, but now eve repair wont start...
I tried launching eve and then I get the message that I have damaged or corrupt files and need to repair it, but how's that possible when eve repair wont start?

its driving me nuts!! I've been fighting with it all day.. playing around with different install locations.. deleting programs to make room for this file.. deleting locations, creating locations, cleaning registry over and over. restarted more times than I can keep track of. I'm normally NEVER trumped by software.. I'm getting a "bad code" hunch here.. Ready to go back to playing world of tanks rather than attempting to manage my training and upkeep a character I can no longer access.. its not like EVE will compensate me for time lost.

1st - close all windows/programs/browser/pørn tube whatsoever.

2nd - create exception for CCP.exe on your firewall: you might have to do more than one if you have one with your router program and use windows one and eventually your AV firewall (if this one is active too)
You also need to create an exception rule for CCP.exe in your AV, it's not mandatory but I'd advise you to do so.

3rd - use some tool like CCCleaner
to clean up your registry and regular temp etc files.

4th - if you're using Chrome you might experience some DL issues depending on your AV (don't ask me why they have their own gibberish crap to throw us and say it's always our fault)

5th - be sure you have the latest Net.framework, this will improve your overall dl speed and quality

6th - if your computer is clean of all virus, trojan, malware etc, that you have the latest drivers updates installed, framework installed, exceptions created in FW and AV then it's your internet and you should take contact with those to get help or them to fix the issues with your connexion.

Hope it helps you a little bit.

Edit: the reason of these steps is to be sure your corrupted file doesn't come from an issue related to your old drivers/AV/FW or simply virus/trojan/malware whatsoever.

no issues with win7 64bit here

I even interrupted the download the launch pad was doing and restarted, still worked fine.

1. check -closed all programs
2. check - never had a firewall block or AV firewall stopping CCP.exe (I also use a Killer 1000 network card which I've allowed CCP to use the full 50mbps my connection allows.
3. check - been using CCLeaner for years.. been cleaning my registry all day
4. check. been using chrome but will try firefox and internet crapsplorer as well to see if it works. however it wasn;t the download that failed.. it was the extraction that failed.
5. check - I have the latest .NET framework installed and windows updates.
6. CHECK - I run two different anti-virus programs. one consistently running and another passive "open-source" program to run deeper scans when I need.

I appreciate your efforts to help, however your information targets the downloading process when it's in fact the extraction process that is kickin my @ss lol .. but now it's not even about the update or latest EVE patch.. I can no longer install the EVE client itself.. and I've been kickin all the steps one at a time.. (glances at the dusty starcraft II box and ponders) ..

Mine kept failing until I did a fresh reboot (the launcher was stuck in task manager and cancelling it was not enough).

Win7 64-bit.

having the exact same problems as you:

1. failed to patch
2. failed to repair
3. failed to install using the eve installer
4. failed to manually install as it still uses the eve installer

thing i'm worried about is CCP working on the initial problem with the patch, and the possibility that it might take them a while to come round to the installer. hopefully it is all part of the same problem though

1 of my accounts has now finished training and another comes out of the queue soon, so need a fix asap
