Your logs claim you're being scanned by a volcano. So no.

Perhaps Tipia since you know all, you can tell me why CCP suddenly needs to start port scanning on ports

Subnet blocked for 10 min SCAN (42370, 41346, 42114, 40322, 40066, 41602, 41858)

I'm just going to go wild and suggest the game crashing is due to whatever batshit insane security you feel is necessary to protect a desktop computer.

FWIW no amount of packet inspection will protect you from being "hacked."

Being hacked is *not* like it happens on TV. There is no circumventing firewalls, opening ports, DIVERT ALL POWER TO THE SUBNET!!

It's rootkit > openport > receive bacon > download nasty.

You are literally causing your own problem.

n.b. I suspect the traffic you are seeing is due to a "torrent like" transfer method on the download. Probably built into the new launcher. Most clients on a peer-to-peer network will periodically check to see if the other peers are awake (ping a specific port).

The giveaway is the port numbers are both random and highrange.

Idiots who make and sell consumer desktop firewall software are trolling all of us.

Seeing as how you apparently know what porn site traffic looks like, maybe you've picked up something… less savoury in your travels.

That, or Khanh'rhh's explanation.

I used to use zonealarm pro.

It would report anything from 15000 to 30,000 blocked "severe" threats every single month.

In 99.99999999% of cases this was legit traffic being blocked (pings from my ISP, that kind of thing)

The remainder was my housemate pinging port 21 because he knew I had it configured to literally make the computer ping. (dont ask)

i'm aware I'm set tight but thanks for some intelligent responses. This is new traffic. It just started on the 11th but only started to setoff my autoshutdown after the patch. I too suspect something new. I really don't get frequent portscans as some people have implied. As I stated in the original post, if I know what its for, I'll let it in but I don't see why they need to scan me/us so aggressively suddenly.

To Mr "or else". If you read the op i stated the "or else", I take software that requires aggressive unexplained traffic off my machine. In this case I know the origin well enough but I don't know why. If I have to remove the software, I of course would have to cancel accounts and blacklist their IP probably under a level 2 corp category though i think of them more as a foreign threat. I go into their computers and I pay a fee for that privilege. They do not have a right to enter into my home and behave badly if I don't want that kind of behavior.

Enter your home and behave badly?

Right.

Will we be hearing about the evils of Torrents next, or shall we skip directly to accusations of hacking.

Fix your security correctly to allow this type of traffic from CCP, or quit, but for gods sake stop whining about it.

WHY are all the people with military type names so insistent that I open my doors to them. I have a right to keep and bare firewalls. Mine happens to be Russian where freedom still exists. Why are so many people against me having some privacy? Why do so many act as if they don't even think I should expect privacy and security. I pay a premium price, I expect a lot from any publisher for only a few bucks a month but now I have one that takes 20 times that off of me. Publication is one way, they put it out and I pay. They don't get information off me with or without my permission without compensation.

Yeah, see… the problem here is that none of the “issues” you're having have anything to do with privacy and security, and quite a lot with you overreacting to… I don't even know what to call it. Noise?

auto shutdown?

really?

you must be trolling us
and yes, the most likely scenario is CCP using s p2p network to put out patch files

open ports mean nothing unless something is there to respond to requests on that port, that's how it works
uninstall whatever idiot software firewall you have and relax a little instead of getting all worked up over logfiles and background noise

it almost sounds like you downloaded one of those scummy security packages that tell you the world is ending every 20 minutes and to throw more money at the problem.

really, get over it

Your troll face is beginning to show more and more. Smile

By the way, my name is not a military reference... it is purely a SciFi reference. Think Babylon 5.

Nobody cares about your privacy, that's rather the point.

What information are they trying to get off you?

What do you define as "premium"?

You are aware, due to your supposed qualifications, that a software company can very well demand a certain environment for their software/service to function correctly. This would include port settings, exclusions made if necessary to certain security software, etc. are you not?

Do you think you can milk this for another couple of pages or so before your trolling becomes too boring for even Tippia to bother with you anymore?
