A few years ago Rahul Sood published a post where he alleged Microsoft canned a project that would pit XBox gamers against PC gamers. (His original post is here)

There was a project that got killed at Microsoft. This project was designed to allow console gamers and PC gamers to interact and battle over a connected environment. Personally I wish it would have stayed the course. I've heard from reliable sources that during the development they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game... and guess what happened? They pitted console gamers with their "console" controller, against PC gamers with their keyboard and mouse.

The console players got destroyed every time. So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative. Is this why the project was killed Who knows, but I'd love to hear from anyone involved --- what happened?

Now gamers would know you just don't get the same sensitivity with a controller as you do with keyboard and mouse. If they were to release a PC version of Dust, how would you account for this?

... PS3 is going to have mouse and keyboard anyway. Also Microsoft are not good game designers anymore which is why it probable failed to begin with. lets wait and see what happens because we jump the gun again Ai Shun.

1. Not for all players. Only those that invest in a mouse and keyboard.
2. :laughs:
3. I'd say asking a question about differences in controllers is far less "jumping the gun" than "zomfg the!r iz PC version!"

But, whatever blows your hair back, dude.

Investing in a mouse and keyboard will not be hard. I plan to use a mouse and keyboard when I get Dust 514 so rage at me all you like lol...

Be cautious of taking your actions and believing everyone else will do the same. And rage? Where?

Then explain to me, please, because you are *really* confusing me now. Let me repeat the relevant portions of the conversation here; following on my question about controller vs mouse/keyboard.

Which was kinda my point #1 way back. To which you said it won't be difficult to get one and you will be. To which I replied; just because you will doesn't mean everyone else will. To which you came back with the equivalent of my point #1 again.

So I don't understand what you were trying to say when you engaged me in a conversation. (Which you kinda do when you quote somebody and refer to them by name)

FWIW I haven't played a PC FPS since Duke Nukem. The original Duke Nukem.

Obviously not, seeing as the original wasn't an FPS Lol

Just these words here say to me that your worried about a PC shooter been hocked up to a PS3, when the PS3 will have mouse and keyboard added to it anyway.

Not saying every one will use those, but some will.

And also to answer that, there is nothing they can rely do to account for it. Unless they change the game play some how.

That's clearer, thanks. Lol

In response, worried is perhaps a strong word. But, it is something to keep in mind because there is a difference. It would do no software any good if there were great disparities in the experience between different interfaces.

as far as i remember, there was an thread some times ago about this particular "problem"

And as far as i know, all keyboard and mouse interfaces for playing got implemented some kind of "balance" by generally making it harder to use, just like putting sensitivity of your mouse to -500000 / or something like that..

So using mouse and keyboard actually should not provide any advantage and become more like the choice of familiarity..

Also in that thread there were some lines about why should i use controller why they dont use keyboard..

Well answer for that was quite simple
Why should they, It is primarily an console FPS, Console players generally use controllers and are more familiar with it. What is the difference between you and them, why they should learn to controll an new interface, when the new interface is actually not an standart package for PS3. If you feel some kind of superiority that you are awesome then learn to play with controller..

well just thought i put it in there.

if they have any common sense they'll give it out as an expansion for free like they always do for PC players who put up with their b.s.

I think you should look at the timing... pre reshuffle at CCP when :awesome: was the order of the day, pc space linking to ps3 ground was :awesome: and that's what was going to come out, to hell with anything else.

Post resuffle, they're probably looking at the realities of what people want a little more than what is :awesome: and the pc port becomes a "nudgenudgewinkwink"...

I guess "when" will be determined by whatever agreement was signed with Sony, if they've got terms for a PS3 exclusive for x number of months (when it was :awesome:) it'll be a while until the pc version comes out regardless.

Curiosity killed the Kata... ... but being immortal he wasn't too worried about keeping a count.

It also looks as if the market is not going to be nearly as closely integrated as we had been led to believe.

Well yeah, there's a 1-year exclusivity deal with Sony. So if it launches at fanfest this year, then it can be available on the PC no sooner than 12 months after that.
