Hull Tanking

Lets talk about what real men do, but never do in practice: Hull Tanks

Low slots:
1) Provides a rainbow resistance in a single module
2) Provides hp buffer protection at the expense of cargo space (lots of free space lately)
Mid Slots:
1) provides active tanking

What it doesn't provide:
Enough of either to make it worthwhile for the slots or the cap costs involved

It would be a perfect solution to a lot of the gallente identity that it faces right now (hello speed for them blasters versus weight of plates). The alternative solution right now is of course shields, but with gallente favoring mwd to an extent makes the increased sig from shield tank unfavorable due to the sig penalty you already get with the mwd on. Of course, armor is still the name of the game for the drone boats as they don't need the speed because the drones do it for them. Gallente offer a healthy mix of mid and low slots to use it well.

This also would be handy for minmatar who get a higher velocity generally, but again find themselves in a shield tank where they need to increase their speed even more to compensate for the sig size caused by the shield extenders. The near even split of low and mid slots perfectly gels with hull tanking already, while allowing tackle and stabs at the same time.

To add more diversity, the carriers can be switched from shield/armor to armor/hull (gallente) and shield/hull (minmatar).

I don't want it to rival the other two options, but it could use a little love. Shield and armor still provide a bit of breathing room if the tank breaks to react to it. Hull tanking doesn't provide that option, but at the same time, we would have to keep in mind that split tanking offers more slot usage elsewhere than single slot focused tanks do now. While amarr and caldari can jump on the hull train, their slot layouts make it unfavorable. The amarr would have a sizable buffer (and smaller buffer compared to armor anyway), but lack the mid for active tank slots as well. Caldari is even worse off as they would have minimal to no low slots for buffer (depending on how many bcs you'd like to have) while expending for an active tank that could be better handled under a natural shield tank.

Um, ok? You're not really asking for anything specific. What NEED are you trying to fill?

Please come back when you yourself have actually figured out what it is that you want and are able to explain it SPECIFIC terms.
