This is just a shout out to any old Mechwarrior 2, 3, or 4 MechJocks out there. Things are starting to heat up on the development front of what pretty much looks a sure bet that a reboot is indeed in pre-production at least at piranha games studios. I played Mechwarrior 4 in the NBT league for about 5-6 years solid. Anyone one else out there who was in NBT give me a shout sometime it be great to catch up. Big smile

Oh and we used a little officer mods. KIDDING! We used a lot of officers mods, A LOT! Because we don’t :censored: around in low-sec.

I would play the hell out of a mechwarrior mmo if it was done right.

I'd take it over eve or star wars or anything with swords and shields.

As i recall the mech warrior makers will still in a lawsuit battle with a ton of japanese companies for claiming copyright saying they stole stuff from macross.

However, my cauldrone-born will eat you innersphere scum alive!

Why Can't I have a picture signature.

Also please support graphical immersion, bring back the art that brought people to EvE online originaly.

the Mech series hasn't been the same since Mech2Mercs... I still got the boxes for Mech2, Ghost bear legacy, and mercenaries.

re: The Lawsuit.
To be fair, they did steal a few of the designs ;-)
but I thought that was settled by FASA agreeing to stop using the 'unseen' Mechs... ?

No need to thank me.

Yeah, it's not my cup of tea. Many of the devs working on that were and are still very active in the NBT community and I've followed it from Alpha.

Russ Bullock pretty much confirmed that there was no 'real' issue here. And has in no way played a part in the hold up of a new game. Now this could mean we wont be able to see any unseen mechs, I don't know.

FASA is no longer in business, the last remnants of FASA were lost when Microsoft shut down FASA Interactive Studios. The rights to Battletech are all over the place. Microsoft owns the digital rights, while Catalyst Games Labs owns the publication / distribution rights to Battletech and Shadow Run.

There was a deal in the pipe between Harmony Gold and Catalyst Games Labs which was even announced to of gone through, allowing for the unseen to make a come back, but then suddenly it all fell through, no idea why.

So we won't know until we get some more solid news about the reboot of the game. Which from Russ Bullocks newest tweet, might be sooner than we think!

The problem with the copyright is nothing to do with the Japanese companies who owned the rights to the designs. FASA, at the time, had successfully negotiated the use of the designs in North America and Europe for their game Battletech (which was orignally called Battledroids, but George Lucas made them change their name).

The problem was another company in the US, Harmony Gold had the distribution rights to Macross and a bunch of other mecha anime outside of Japan which became the Robotech series. Harmony Gold, sued FASA for using the designs in order to protect the Robotech IP, FASA lost the court case and the rest is history.

Bullock has talked about giving the game some persistence in Multiplayer, maybe like say MPBT series where you join a faction within the Inner Sphere and you fight to take over the planets of the other great houses. Alongside this you could have other stuff in relation to supplies, parts for Mechs and such. Leveling up to use new equipment on your Battlemech or whatever. It's certainly been talked about, I doubt we would see a fully blown MMO though, though if done right I certainly would welcome it.

Mechwarrior is bestwarrior.

Played MW3 a lot back in the day, so much ultra-autocannon20 UA icemaps, enough to last to a lifetime. Avatar > Thor, bushacker if you wanna be a hipster.

I have seldom ever bought a game on release day, but I got MechCommander2 on that day, that was great fun too.

Played Mechwarrior darkage table top game in highschool, I had a collection of it and I got my friend into it to and we would go out to tournaments on the weekends and kick asses, all the prizes would go back into my collection regardless of if me or him won.

Played Mechassault on xbox when it came out, I remember loving the 'Not it' mode of play, and I was on the leaderboards for that mode of play I believe even #1 for some time, at the time one of the other big 'not it' leaderboard guys was 'darkturtle' i think.

Never got into MW4 and I tried living legends and didn't care for it. Also messed around with some mechwarrior stuff in second life but never got into that either.

There was also a computer client that you could play original battletech on... played that for quite a while and that was great but eventually stopped. Got the complexity and depth of battletech without personally having to calculate missile hits.

Yeah it's called MegaMek, and it's awesome :-) I've not played it in a while now but if anyone wants a game I'll dig out my copy of Total Warfare (base Battletech rules).

The dead table top game? Not sure I follow. The game is very much not dead. New TRO's, new rule set updates, new lore and novels, pretty much everything is still being published, there is still a big community of players new and old. In fact, at the moment, they have been fleshing out the Star League and reunification war period.

Battletech is still alive, and well as far i know it still has a huge fanbase of dedicated players
Hell even i Stil have the original box somewhere on the attic with lots and lots of expansions lore books and miniatures , somewhere collecting dust from the pre 4th succesionwar all the way till 3057

Not to mention MW2 3 and 4 and both mechcommanders

It is one of those games that will never really die just like AD&D no matter if you like playing the original system or the d20 system

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire
