Will this get me killed?

OK, so I've started in on some scanning. Managed to find a wormhole and have decided to poke around for a look.

The wormhole is a C3 and I can tell from the D Scan that there's one or two death stars in system. I'd like to go in for a close up look, but alas no covert ops yet. I'm just flying my cheapo Minmatar Probe. I am fitted with a cloaking device. Can I warp to within 100km and cloak without getting insta slain by the death star?

Probably. It'll take a few secs for a POS to lock you IIRC. You're taking your life into your hands, but it's just a cheap Probe anyways, so you might as well have some fun and give it a go.

A POS will take on the order of 30-40 seconds to lock a frigate unless you pop a MWD.

Thanks all, should be plenty of time. And as mxzf noted...it's a throw away anyways! In I go!

Suck ass posting borad ate my post ...

Anyway ... look out for the sleeper sentry guns as they will zap your ass before you can warp away.

Be prepared to dodge people at the entry point as they move their ships to uncloak yours.

Watch for bubbles ... WH is 0.0 space ...

Make some safe spots - not on line between celestials.

When launching your probes - uncloak, launch the probes, warp to a new spot, recloak - then manage the probes.

Don't say anything in local if you don't have to - they may not know you're there if you keep quiet. Unlike normal space - everyone in the system does NOT automatically show up on local.

GL & Have Fun!

If you want to look at a pos, go up in your pod. Won't stop people podding you or pos gunners controlling the guns but a pos on it's own will not shoot you.

Have fun..

If you're doing flybys on hostile towers, check beforehand that your overview setting can show you both mobile warp disruptors and cargo cans. This is because sometimes the tower owner will have placed a trap to kill people who warp to his moon - a mobile warp disruptor on the moon's warpin beacon to pull you in, and a horde of anchored cargo cans nearby to make it impossible to cloak while the tower slowly gets a target lock.

If you do get caught in such a trap, you have a decent amount of time to move out of the 2km range from any cargo can and cloak up, but you'll need to see where they are first so you can maneuver away from these land mines quickly.

Panic is the killer here. DON'T PANIC!

I've had my POS auto-target and destroy an Interceptor. He must have panicked, because it takes about a minute for EWAR like a warp disruptor or a webifier to lock on something that small.

It also depends on turret size and most towers have one or two smaller guns just for shooting smaller ships.

would be nice if we could get that in friendly red lettering ... too bad the forums don't seem to like using colour tagsEvil

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Well ... the other thing is ... don't warp to zero on the Moon or anything else in the WH.

Also - if you create your safe spots first - and warp in from one of them - you're not warping in along a known line of approach.

And .. of course ... don't get the idea by any means that any of this is safe ... there are just things you can do to reduce your chances of getting blown up. Doing everything right - is no guarantee you won't end up in your clone.

But with that in mind ... what the hell ...

*shrug*
