I don't know how many of you have been keeping a breast of the situation, but the Battlefield 3 open beta starts on Sept 29th and will be open to all. However you need to have EA's special "Origin" Steam-ripoff service running in the background to play it on PC. Doesn't sound too bad until you look at recent news, and find out about it's highly controversial EULA, which basically gives EA the right to scan your hard drive and report what it finds. According to EA this is to enhance our gameplay experience, though many think it's for finding out who has pirated other EA games on their hard drive.

I did a quick search though and found this, which is a theoretical work around involving running Origin in a sandbox so it cannot snoop around. I don't know if it'll work but I thought it important to share with you all just in case.

Actually to play it you need origin to get beta access I was under the impression you needed to have bought MOH or pre order BF3 off of origin.

Ill try that out. If not put it on my extra HDD thats blank or has all of 8 gigs of linux on there.

ffs and when the game launches live it will require this garbage Origin. Good article and workaround for blocking that spying, so now I may consider trying it for PC.
