As usual, new poster comes to the forums and says 'hi, I want a new ship lol, which one should I take?'

What role are you planning on using your new cross training race for?

Start out cross-training for T2 frigates. You can train t2 weapons, ships and tank in very little time. You can then pick and choose the best of each t2 frigate class.

I still fly predominantly caldari but recently trained up for the Dramiel. Took very little time to pick up t2 autocannons and the racial frigates to lvl 5.

pick whatever, tanking skills take no time to train and you should have all of them anyway, with missiles you won't effectively crosstrain to anything, if you just want to fly pirate ships then that's a different story

well basically I want to be in something that can do some damage. unlike hybrids or the time frame of missiles. mimitar does look like the best choice being as i have good shield skills. turrets excite me unlike missiles.

Where are you firing your missiles from? I never have any trouble inside of point range.

Rocket Launcher 2: cycle time of 4s
280mm Howitzer Artillery 2: cycle time of 10.71s

Don't make blanket statements, they're usually wrong in some way.

Missiles and other weapons can be used fine in PvP, there's a bit of time before the missiles hit, but they still work perfectly well in small gangs and such.

To the OP, if you're going to crosstrain, Minmatar would probably be the easiest (since there's some overlap with shields and missiles), but there's no reason not to get frigs/cruisers in all races, then just try them out and see what you like.

Not that I agree with Nate555 but comparing the short range missiles with the long range artys for rof is hardly fair comparison

Caldari is always a good option.

The best PVPers in game use Caldari...

Minmatar is just trending atm.

Your missing out rockets on the right ship i.e. Hookbill, Hawk or Vengeance are bloody marvellous

Rockets should be compared to Autocannons, not artillery. But it's not like it's big difference there either.
Rocket Launcher II: 4s
200mm AutoCannon II: 3.75s
Medium Pulse Laser II: 3.5s
Light Neutron Blaster II 3.5s

It doesn't matter what class you select, missiles are going to have the lowest rof in that class. I some cases the difference is small like for small short range or medium short range but in other cases it's really large like for example large short range with torpedos having double rof time compared to the second slowest.

One more thing to take into account is that rof bonuses for missiles is an exception, not the rule. Where for turrets it's much more common.

Sounds like a Hurricane would suit you perfectly. They have good DPS good in gangs and fleets and overall a Fun ship!
Not to hard to train towards aswell, ill think about which ship interests you first then get stuck in and train towards it, tempest fleet issue is a awesome ship :D Like most have already said it wont be to hard on your skill ether, you already have shields and missles help too.
