I thought that the orbital bombardment ships were going to be sieged dreads. And if thats the case I'd get one of those if I were you.

MMOs come and go, but Eve remains.  -Garresh-

Doesn't mean there won't be a new 'planetary bombardment' skill.

Does this mean there will actually be orbital bombardment?...

Uhhh, nevermind. Guess I can't hold all the big alliance planets for ransom.

Yes you will be able to kill them with impunity ....

Guys be realistic, it looks cool in the trailers but THATS IT. There is noway in hell they will let us bomb them, because the avarege eveplayer would take incredible delight in bombing every last one of them unitl they quit the game.

How does this sales pitch sound to you:

Please play our console game, where you will die after a few seconds at the Hand of PC players who are untouchable for you and will just kill you again and again and again.

Yeah right, not gonna happen.

Another tidbit for you: The technic was already explained, there will be geolocated dust gameserver, who download the information from the eve-cluster before the start of the game and report the result back to the Cluster once the match has concluded

Yeah... 1400mm shells raining from orbit seems a bit unfair...
PI isn't about sucking resources it's about raining shrapnel...

So yeah... Not going to happen...

Oh good, ransom back on.

Alliances: 30 bil up front and I will *never* attack your planets.

Not a terribly large cost considering the number of planets!

200 bil and my friends and I will be one of your mercenary corps for one year. You want that

A good idea would be a pre-emptive bombardment before the actual battle started. Fortifications and emplacements which the mercs could use being destroyed before the battle, much like in the first world war. Strength of the emplacement VS Calibre of the gun could decide how much damage is done. Something like that, anyway.

"We will create the introduction thread if that is requested by the community. Also, we will have an ISD Seminar about the CCL team in the coming weeks in which you can ask your questions about the CCL team and provide some constructive feedback to us." - Countless pages of locked threads and numerous permabanned accounts later, change is coming.

Well, considering Dust ops will take place on contested planets, it kinda makes sense for both the attackers and defenders to gain air(space) superiority to prevent their dust bunnies from getting glassed, therefore only once any side actually has cleared the field will any meaningfull bombardment take place.

Then there is the issue that there is some VERY expensive infrastructure (eg, space elevator) down there that will be destroyed if they do just nuke it, oh and the dust bunnies can shoot back.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

From what's in Templar One, it looks like ships are pretty vulnerable to planetside launchers and other ships while in a position for orbital bombardment. So hopefully that'll translate into game mechanics.

Of course, despite the fact that CCP have stated that it will be possible...possibly only in the form of dread's with a special module (and speculated to require the dread to be in siege mode P )

I've long suspected that the removal of the titan AOD was in fact a preemptive move to make sure that PL or any other Titan heavy alliance did not spend it's free time glassing Dust players off of planets like fumigators removing roach infestations.

This was covered somewhere already, I don't have a source atm, but as I recall it worked like this...

Dreads can do orbital bombardments in real-time on Dust players, however it requires a DUST commander to signify where a dread can bombard. the planet. Basically it's a player fired version of the ion-cannon in RTS games.

Similarly, DUST players can fire back at eve players through ground based installments that are captured. So the pain goes both ways.

That's all I know, and as I recall, none of that was set in stone yet. (Beyond the basics)

(This is all very easy to implement, Dread fires at planet -> Eve server sends fire request to DUST server -> Dust commander's targeted location has a beam of death rain down from above. And vice versa)

Orbital bombardment doesn't have to insta-kill everyone. Think creatively. It could slow down the respawn rate of the enemy, or limit weapons/vehicles to certain classes only, etc, while the bombardment is in effect. That way you'd have dreads sieging planets for these beneficial effects, and of course dreads being hot-dropped while in seige mode...

If Dust releases for PS3 only it is our duty to remind Dust players this is a cold harsh universe, therefore I propose a special coalition that will go around indiscriminately orbital bombing all Dust players to kingdom come.

Finally! High Sec and 0.0 players will work together and agree on something! Death to PS3 players and console exclusives!

Come on that cannon food only expects to die ALOT.

More seriously Hilmar himself did show that on fanfest couple years ago: "When diplomacy fails theres always...... nuke from orbit option".

Maybe ccp should think why planets would be worth fighting for on that scale? Currently there no such resource on planets surfaces.
