Engine/Propulsion noise.

Hi

This may be mentioned before. In TV shows, such as Stargate, Battlestar Galactica and movies Star Wars, Star Trek, i hear several different types of engine noises. I would like to hear engine noise that is unique to its host ship, in a way that is similar to engine noises from vehicles.

Before this, I would like the 4 engine types of races to have at least different color. And maybe, just maybe CCP could be sooooooooo nice and give them different efects. If you dont know, while the direct reference in game was removed, you can still check the Database for Contruction Components of T2 Ships, this will give you the info:

Gallente
Propulsion: Ion Thrusters
Power: Fusion Reactors

Caldari
Propulsion: Magpulse drives
Power: Graviton Reactors

Amarr
Propulsion: Fusion thrusters
Power: Antimatter reactors

Minmatar
Propulsion: Plasma rockets
Power: Fission reactors

As far as sound go, you have sound on? Since im using skype / ventrillo / evevoice / radio (chose for yourself) I have them off pernamently. I even dont memember how engine sounds :-).

CCP really please dont use Upgraded, Limited, Experimental and Prototype in item names. It sounds like the item is actually worse than basic meta 1 item. Use Calibrated, Enhanced, Optimized and Upgraded. Its really easy to understand that the item is better than meta 1 and its also in alphabetic order.

A bit like this: whooosh

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Realistically speaking, you wouldn't hear it. Then again, you wouldn't hear the turrets or the annoying drone of an Armor Repairer either.

Sure, I'll bite. +1. I would also like to see the different effects mentioned as well; would definitely add to the immersion.

technically, you WILL hear anything that makes contact with your ships, you hear the turrets recoil and thje vibrations caused by the projectile (or energy) being emitted reverberatingt rhough the ship, and you most certainly WILL ehar that missile hitting you ship, because there is air for sound IN the ship, just not outside it

I politely counter your almost entirely invalid argument (it's a game, and I've already given your thread my support) with the fact that...

You're in a pod. Seeing your ship through an external camera that is -not- connected to your ship. Let's try to keep this in the fantasy sci-fi based setting that it is rather than argue about senseless school topics.

you dont "hear" with the camera though, you WOULD ehar the vibrations as your pod is IN YOUR ship, so any sounds YOUR ship makes WOULD be heard INSIDE the ship which si where YOUR pod is. so this is still WITHIN the SCIFI setting of EvE

also note that sounds you "should not" hear are electronically generated by the pod computers because without the auditory stimulus, initial capsuleers went a little crazy (or something along those lines).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Chapter 3 of "The Jovian Wetgrave" goes into detail about why sound was placed into the capsule system.

So how would noise and colour trails subsequently be affected by AB's, MWD's, overdrive injectors, astro rigs etc assuming these are shared use accross all races yet according to the research tree are associated with the minmitar? Would it simply increase the order of magnitude accordingly?

At the end of the day no real objections, sure some tactical allowance for racial colouration. Just aslong as it never reaches the final fantasy style wake patterns of flower petals or rainbow sparkles.

I just thought I would say +1

And just a note, Why do I hear the sound of wind when I am in warp?

Maybe solar radiation playing sweet music on your tritanium drum hull.

(Could of course just be added to add a bit more entertainment to a game I guess, but that'd be silly to expect anything but full realism in EvE surely?)

+1 to anything that makes the races more distinct.

Amarr ships should have a high energy sounding hum as well as a grumbly bass heavy rocket noise. They obviously use lasers to create fusion, and since they have a few large engines(instead of lots of little ones like gallente), they would sound big and powerful.
Their engine exhaust should be brighter, more white than blue. Fusion is really hot after all.

Caldari should have some kind of soft electronic pulsed hum with a gentle thrust sound. Their ships should be the quietest since they aren't engineered with very robust propulsion systems. Why move when you can hit out past 200km right?

Also, their engine exhaust should look like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G48yJgyy1Uo

Minmatar ships should sound like a combination of a broken washing machine, a souped up diesel engine, and hot plasma being forced through narrow spaces at high velocities. This sound becomes more intense as the ship moves faster.

When the pilot enters hull, he is greeted by the sounds of grinding transmissions and blown engines. (Just kidding.)

Gallente ships should have some kind of organic, magnetic hum coupled with the sound of plasma being exhausted from lots of little engines. This sound would increase in intensity as the ship accelerates.

Also, their engine exhaust needs to be longer, more transparent, and a little less uniform. Since that's what an ionized plasma would probably look like.

EVE has sound?

Actually there are distinct differences between the engine noises of the different factions, and Gallente are getting an entirely unique thruster effect in the next expansion if what's going on on the test server is true.
