Rapid Release Cycles of Patches & Updates

Hello Folks.

i am sorry if i post in the wrong thread, please move this topic where it belongs if I chose the wrong section.

In the last months the release cycles of patches and updates have gotten shorter and shorter.
What started out as a good thing, has become a real annoying thing. At least this is my opinion.
I am patching almost every day these times.... Combined with multiple client installations and low-bandwith this is so annyoing.

As a result i am really starting to think if i want to update my eve clients or play another game instead if i do not have hours to spend on EvE.

Dont get me wrong, i love how fast (at least most) bugs, blockers, etc. are taken care of. But patching as often as nowadays
is seriously too much.

What is your opinion about this guys?

Cheers,

yeah, they're patching a lot ... but you have to remember that Crucible was effectively "thrown together".

As for "multiple installations" --> download the manual patcher (once) and then update all the clients from that... though I don't really know why you'd have multi installs, unless you have sisi/dudu setups...

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I dont mean SiSi. Thats a testserver, where i appreciate daily patches!

I am using multiple installations of TQ version because i have a dedicated GFX card for every monitor, and its more than two.
As Settings are global until you login and choose a character, you cannot set to startup on different GFX cards, or monitors.

But that is not the key point of my concern, as this does not apply for most of us.
I mean the extreme short amount of days (hours) between update procedures. AND the fixes...for the patches.... those could be made available as one DL if you're not on the updated version , that needs to be fixed.

Its cool to patch alot and care about bugs (customer issues) fast. I love that, and EvE seems to be industry leader after Virusscanners, but i think its , as often in Life, better to find a balance between annoying customers and a welcomed service.

Just my thoughts...

a short addition: I dont want it back how it was a couple of years ago!! But for me it feels like it turned from -100 to >9000 with releasing stuff...

What, so you WANT gamebreaking bugs to be left alone instead of fixed ASAP?

OK, fair enough.

1. pick up the manual patcher from here --> http://community.eveonline.com/patches/patches.asp
2. use said patcher to patch each install of EVE

Might be more of a pain to do, but 1 download then becomes multiple patches, instead of your "download n times to patch all my clients".

This'll probably only keep up until they can drop a full release on us (so, about three months or so, if they stick to May releases for the "summer" patch). Though, they have also changed their mentality from "give them everything on Day 1" to "Give them stuff in smaller releases every few weeks to a month until the whole expansion is live".

No.

I want bugs to stay more on SiSi and not get something new every week that is broken or breaks other stuff, and needs to get fixed 5 hours after deployment.

I also know about the manual patching. You can also just not delete local content data after each client update - there are many workarounds for this, but none of them is comfortable and takes ages to complete Cry

a working solution to be able to store graphics settings profile for each card on a one-click startup basis (parameters or anything alike) whould be fair enough to solve most issues - but that is going into offtopic, which is about the rapid release cycles.

There are many more solutions to ged rid of the patch-every-time-you-login thing, than just not doing it and leaving critical bugs in the game. (more trying to) prevent them , for example.

Of course, if you want new features patched into the game asap - this thread is noct for you m8 Blink
