Don't listen to the "you broke your own stuff" crowd..apparently you didn't see the forums at Incarna release where dozens of laptops fried. I run mine sitting up on a metal grate to insure air circulation and it burnt up.
An M-Tech gaming laptop , i had to buy a new 9800m graphics card - which you can't buy in USA. (Ebay rescued me for $300)

If you have no choice but to run eve on a laptop..take it apart and clean the dust out of graphics card fins. Normal cleaning will not prevent dust bunnies in notebooks.

I personally uninstalled eve from notebook.

You got me worried. I think I'll clean my cooler just in case. I don't play eve that much lately, but better safe than sorry. ATM I don't have the comfort of a desktop so my laptop is all I got.

I come back a few hours later to find my laptop BURNING HOT all over simply because I left the EVE client log in page open.

Note: I did not leave open any other APP besides EVE client and my browser (had 3 blank tabs open) when I left.

I think maybe your computer was looking at some hot websites. and changed them to blank tabs when you got back.
You wouldn't be suggesting that Eve Online was looking at porn and got the computer all hot while you were away?!?!

The 3 blank tabs is very suspicious.

But blaming poor Eve Online for that. It's unfair. Even if it was to blame... It has urges!!! Okay!?! It's only hum... ummm
Never mind.

Turn off your laptop.

All of this is a nobrainer.

I can understand a hot laptop when I play EVE, but on a log in page? Seriously?

I had similar happen to me. I was playing Eve so hard that I missed my new job appointment. I ran out of money, lost my house and my car and my wife left me. Damn you CCP!!!

On the upside, I now play Eve on a laptop on my new home, a parkbench, and the 5 degree wind keeps my laptop cool no probs.

But yeah, CCP is also to blame for us having to listen to this whining, nonsensical load of codswallop. Yeah, I know, I don't have to read, I don't have to play. I should just turn my 'puter off and get a life.

Hey. Now THERE'S an idea.

But c'mon. Seriously?!

tl;dr: My laptop gets all hot and bothered too, but it's because the servers next to it are scantily clad (and it's sunny out).

You are right, my graphix card was running at max due to the log in page for some reason. But HOW/WHY does EVE client log in page use so much resources? Is there a option to turn this thing off, it might burn my laptop...

because its rendering a a viewport with a full ship with animations and particle effects just like (gasp) the game does when you play it.

perhaps your video card kinda sucks with the particle effects rendering non-stop for hours on end, just like if you were carebearin it up shooting at rocks like you obviously do on a regular basis

Reminds me of...

When leaving notebooks idle, (idle login-screen counts as idle too)
windows-stuff kicks in, (for example: defragmentation)
and the fan goes way up.

so, that pretty much sums up to A LOT OF HEAT !

had this with every notebook for years now,
so yours is no exception.

And this has nothing to do with the CQ,
so why bother even bringing it in ? O_o

edit: removed the useless insults.

I disagree... if I leave my laptop open all night for example (No EVE client open) there is no heat in the morning. Plus I got no defragmentation going on. I know my pc man, I know if there are any backgorund stuff going on. The only reasonable explanation is the EVE client going crazy on my graphix card.

@ trolls

My laptop is designed for heavy PC gaming mind you, not the average integrated Intel GPU that runs solitaire.

This is a clear problem for EVE and CCP that seems to be ignored. Stop making excuses.

Another poster that wasn't around when the Classic client was axed for good... Lol

However, I do admit, this is slightly different than what happened then, given that CCP has already admitted that the Incarna client runs poorly and could use some performance tweaks, i.e. anyone with half a fart in their head would be better to not run the game client on systems that they know cannot handle the current iteration of the client, or ya know... be prepared to smoke their systems, which will be their fault.

It's like this:

My laptop can run EVE just fine, but the heat it generates post-Incarna is definitely higher and the log-in part of the client is just absurd if you ask me. Getting you PC this hot just to run a damn animation is ridiculous.

Is a troll someone that tells you that you've got a problem with your laptop?
Is a troll someone that tells you that "heavy PC gaming" shouldn't be done on a portable machine with a 1 1/2" fan?
Is a troll someone that tells you that you should never leave a laptop on all day anyway, Eve or otherwise?
Is a troll someone that tells you that if leave your machine on all day doing nothing you are causing environmental damage

(I made up the last one. woot. +1).

Yep. We're trolls.

What is your interval set at ?

VIdeo cards can act like a runaway train on a blank screen (Login Screens)

Again, the obvious solution is to not run your client on a system you know cannot handle it currently.

It sucks, and I do imagine it is pretty disappointing, but it wouldn't be the first time a game developer overshoots the performance requirements for their client in such a way that causes clients undo issues and complications.

I had to stop using my own laptop when they axed the Classic client because all I could really do with the Premium client was sit in station with the settings at their absolute lowest, which was kind of useless except for chatting and trading of course.

This situation is a work in progress, i.e. until CCP actually releases any content patches aimed at reducing performance problems for low end user rigs like laptops, etc. you have two options, continue to play the client on your laptop and hope it survives, or put it down and stick to a desktop until CCP makes good on their promise to look into the problem.

both people are right in this thread.

Laptops shouldn't be left on all day using gpu heavy programs, they do get hot hurr durr. @op try idling in another game all day and see if your laptop doesnt get hot. The opening screen does have a rather fancy animation.

but

everyone knows that there are problems with Incarna's performance, even CCP have admitted it. Cards working way too hard for the environment needed.
