[Proposal] Reduce Employment History - Plus reduce Lag and Server Performance!

Hello All

So what I am proposing is to REDUCE the employment history list to the last year only. To be honest most people are only interested in what you have been doing in the past year, infact possibly less. And most people are really only interested in your profile, first, if they think your a possible spy or fought for an hostile group and maybe if you have any epeen corps you been in.

Even if you have been fighting for an hostile group as long as you are not with them in the past 3 months people are still usually OK with that. But im choosing a year as this gives a decent timespan to look back on

Beyond that I dont see any need for it in all seriousness, unless your the 1% of the population that are really a bit over the top.

Employment history can be long for people who have played for sometime, and with the NPC corps in there as well, it can get quite long. Also people buy and sell chars so to be honest you might not be even speaking with the original owner(s)

Reducing this will tidy up the UI, reduce lag and server performance having to load up the list, especially if its long ( i mean how many times in 1 day must thousands of employment lists get looked at)

**Edit**

Due to some feedback, the proposal has changed so that there is an option within the UI or options panel thats allows the full history to be shown. Initially it will show a limited history to everyone (6-12 months), but incase people want to see your full history this can be switched on, when necessary.

And if you dont support it, at least give a good reason rather than - cos i want to.....because you can still see all history if needed

Thanks

No. If people tend to do corp hopping i want to see that.
Also when there is certain corps inside the list i want to see.
I know some people who quit corp every time they got a wardec, i want to see that, too.
Corp hopping should have consequences. At least i can choose my members and the corp list is a very good indicator, i want see that all.

I think its states in the proposal that through the api key you can see this. I really do wish people would read the WHOLE thing, before seeing red and replying. Awkward for awkward sake perhaps?

I would have to say no on this one as well. I shouldn't have to ask for an API key just to look at corp history. I seriously doubt this would clear up any lag at all honestly.

Also...why are you posting with an alt? Either that or you are 2 months into playing EvE...

I think a better option (and a compromise) is to load the last year's worth upon clicking the tab, but having a button you can press within the show info screen that loads *all* of their corp history.

No need to parse through an API download, or anything like that - just an extra click.

Or you could have a checkbox option in the options that can either show all or limited. See what surprises me is why people would have an issue with this. It doesnt remove anything, but improves and cleans up. Sometimes I think people just like to say no, just for the hell of it.

Why would you look at someones corp history way back when? Why does anything past 6 months for that matter really make a difference. I mean look at the standings removal CCP did, I think thats just as integral to the game than seeing corp history.

Its like a CV, no employer gives a damn what you did 2 years agom infact most check your last and previous and thats usually it. Even references dont have to be given after a certain period, because you could be a different type of person than to when someone knew you. Having to see someones history is just irrelevant and shows no purpose at all, especially as stated people buy and sell chars all the time. And if you really must know it, your really just being nosey Big smile which doesnt warrant it being in game.

To see all history is to discern patterens of behaivour...whether someone is likely to jump corps or not...a measurement of loyalty. Aside from the obvious of course.

those who don't look are likely fools just begging to get *insert drastardly task here*.

I'm in favor of doing something akin to alliance rankings page..show the last 6 months...then reveal all.

Or make it available through API key.

But I am NOT in favor of this God Awful proposal.

I say no to this also.

Yes, having done Recruitment before I can say that six months is actually too small of a time frame to determine if you are a corp theft or spy. In fact, the ONLY reason why you'd want this changed would be to improve your spy or corp thief's useability. There is no lag issue involved with this.

So, how come the OP didn't answer the question why he was using an alt to post this in the Assembly Hall?

This pretty much. For HR purposes the entire history should still be accessible, but when showing info on some dudes in local I'm usually not interested in their employment mid-2004 and the lag this request causes.

Make it short (mabye even just last 5 employers or last 3 months) on show info, hide entire employment records behind a toggle.

You could show the past 6-12 months and have a "show full history" button which would load the complete corp history if needed.

I look at the very first employment history to guage and dudge the skill level of a player before pvp happens.

I dont care for the employment history- just the Date Of Birth technically.

I wouldn't mind this so long as there's an option you can change to show full history by default instead of the shortened history (as in I can hit escape and check a checkbox and it'll always show the full history at first when I show info).

There are two main things I'm usually looking for when I show employment history, their character's date of birth and how much they hop around in corps. Both of those things I want to have quick access to when I show info on someone in local, I don't want to have to click another button to show more info every time when I will want all the info every time.

I don't mind if y'all have an option to show less info, just don't make it harder for me to get the info that I need.

Supported IFF there's an option to always show full history instead.
