Upgrade Probe Scanning Skills and Gear and Now Can't FInd Jack!

I am pulling my hair out scanning these days. And I am bald. Literally grabbing tweezers to inflict pain on myself.

I used to have average results finding Grav and Radar sites. These days, it seems impossible. So, what's different?

I added two Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I rigs to my Probe.

I upgraded to Sisters Core Probes

And I trained the following skills:

Astrometrics from 3 to level 5
Astrometric Pinpointing from 1 to level 3
Astrometric Rangefinding from 0 to level 4
Astrometric Acquisition from 1 to leve 3

Now I can't find jack. I frequently get to < %20, reduce my scan range on my probes and wa-lah! signature disappears. OR I get to about %40 and cannot get any stronger signal despite ranging down to .25 AU.

I am using a 5 probe technique similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5uGYYYfHKo

I am scanning in the Metropolis system in solar systems Asgeir, Flost, Ongund, etc.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Maybe Jack didn't want to be found and cloaked or left the system?

Has nothing to do with your skills, so must be either your technique, or your skills not being applied (check the info on probes and launcher).

I have level 2 skills, and I've never had a problem scanning anything, even in an unbonused ship. Just takes longer.

Not sure if this is the answer but with a recent release/patch, I know people's probe settings were reset (and it was not well advertised this was going to happen).

Basically with probes out, you need to open the settings for them (under SCAN RESULT FILTER if I recall correctly) and hit the tic-boxes of the things you want your probes to be able to scan down once your probes recognize them (as in once they know you are sniffing on a grav site or a radar etc).

Hope this helps.

o/ Couldn't find me but I sure found you!

The systems you are scanning are rather high security, If you don't wish to travel to low/null sec space, then I recommend finding a 0.5. I've often had luck in lower security spaces, and plenty of luck in nullsec. Also, what ship are you scanning in? Best bet would be a T1 scanning frig, or a T2. Something like the Heron, Magnate, etc. Something with scanning bonuses. When in doubt, scan in very very low population areas. To ensure the sites haven't been already scanned and finished.

This seems to have happened to me as well. No problems in the past with scanning, but after a recent patch its nearly impossible. Very frustration the other day to get a signal and than lose it when homing in on it. And no its not a skills or technique issue as I have been very sucessful in scanning in the past... Hopefully reseting the probes will help, but might be a bug that is hit and miss for some reason?? It would be nice of CCP to release some info on this issue.

Might be a bug... but re-setting your scan filters couldn't hurt now, could it?

OP, this is your problem^^

In your scan filter, the grav, mag, etc checkboxes are unchecked. So, when you scan a signature down enough to resolve it into a specific site type (say grav), the filter kicks in and filters it out, hence it disappears.

You have to edit your filters, add all the sites in, and then save it.

No, no it could not :)
