Hello
I noticed that EVE has a task bar with a "start" button, windows, and some basic accessories(calculator, note pad, browser) and my question is:
When will EVE become a full operating System?
Thank You

a PC that can only be turned on 23.5/7, fun. and not to count the extended downtimes everytime you need an update.

They will have to evolve alot before they can switch to a full operating system

We see scientists trying to merge everyday life with our pc but why dont they try to merge our virtual worlds with our pc and get rid of the interface that is the operating system

About the 23.5/7 Issue...

Just make it connect to multiple servers:

Tranquility
Singularity
What was the other one called again?

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Setup a VERY minimal Linux install, preferably Debian, and install only the necessities: Xorg, video drivers, and WINE. Setup a script that runs on startup which runs Eve and then shuts the computer down when you close Eve. I'll definitely try it out and see how it goes ;)

that was pretty much what I was thinking about. minimal system overhead, functionality, and would do pretty much exactly what the OP wanted.

First it would need Solitaire and Minesweeper. It can't be judged an actual operating system until it has those two apps.

Sort of like Oberon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberon_operating_system

This should be looked into. Not only should Eve be an operating system, but it should also be developed to run exclusively on its own SPARC based architecture and hardware.

Actually, once everyone has a fiber optic internet connection at home, CCP should release an Eve thin client that requires no installation or updating and connects direcly to the Eve supercomputer mainframe. The entire game will be rendered on their servers for everyone and you'll never need to buy a fancy graphics card again. Idea

It's Eve.... you don't need a fancy graphics card now.

When CCP sells its soul to Micro...no, wait...the DEVIL! Twisted

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."
