Tactical Overlay

Hello,
This is my alt

My main is a pirate... and when u are a pirate usually u have to deal with BLOBS.

to negate this i use tactical overlay and zoom camera far away from my ship to see each poor blober who's about to die in my view.
When i do that my ship becomes really really small dot... And i cannot see where my ship is heading.
So i would like to ask my dearest dev's to make an "arrow" or some kind of graphics which would indicate the position of my ship and which way the ship is heading, in tactical overlay graphs

Thank you

As another tactical overlay user. I second this idea!

Love the idea! Current tactical overlay could be drastically updated. Aside from just putting a directional arrow, would be awesome if at some point it would show projected flight path. Manually navigating in blob situations is pretty sketchy in its current form. Half the time I'm accidentally clicking other ships instead of changing heading and orbit is highly predictable. So a way to combine manual control with the automation of orbit would be ideal. But to start with just having a directional arrow would help immensely.

What would be nice would be being able to customise the tactical overlay in relation to some of the items displayed on your overview EG: projected flightpath of your ship (indicated on overview) taken into account the transversal/velocity & distance. And would be nice getting some sort of visual "line" indicating the flight path of hostile ships as well as maybe adding an indicator of the best position for weapon range/tracking?

I like the fact that (ive only noticed recently) there is a "bubble" displayed on the overlay surrounding your ship that indicates the range of certain modules, such as webbers. disruptors etc.

I like this, anything that increases the tactical overlay's usefulness.

I'm also of the belief that the FC (or someone with an assignable fleet role) should be able to edit the tactical display in a manner that the entire fleet can view. you know, like an actual game board.

ex.
wing 1, fly this way *draws an arrow* etc etc

the overlay is obviously limited to the current grid, it cannot set 'bookmarks' only 'waypoints' so to say.
this would allow the fleet to visibly plan flanking maneuvers

ex.
inty fly to this point *draw a waypoint*
inty broadcasts in position
BS's warp to inty.

that is a bit too complicated, as for now a simple direction arrow would be suffice imho,
and less coding for devs

This is one of these small things that could be fixed easily and would have a BIG impact usability wise!

Though I would go one step further and would like to see an arrow always visible as soon as the ship gets to small while zooming out.

I was thinking the same thing the other day... It amazes me how the players can spot so many problems and propose a solution, but the devs seem to be blind to the problems.

Seriously CCP hire a new UI designer because the current UI is a ******* joke!

I just have to agree. After all the years of improvements, the UI still sucks. Sorry.

Lets not get into a UI discussion, but this is a damn good idea. Directional arrow when using tactical overlay would be handy, drawing other peoples Directional arrows would not be a good idea as you may have some unintended consequence, server load / comms possibly. Granted the server does pass that info anyway but a 400 man fleet fight with all arrows drawn would look like a bowl of spaghetti.

Sometimes "Meh" is an acceptable response.

I would like to see this kind of thing added as well (I'm more interested in a projected flight path for my ship than a big ugly arrow in my screen though). Make a few different options and make them easy to toggle on and off (like the overview settings). Let us control how we want the Tac Overlay to look.

Also, could someone do something about the scaling of the range numbers? If you're at just the wrong zoom level and the camera is level with your ship, the range number can completely fill your screen. They should scale down in size if the camera gets too close to them.

tactical overlay should attach radi to you, and your target to make it easier to show the distances on the tact view
