Roll jesus, arguments about lexicon and what's "proper", "correct", and "common". hurr I say soda, hurr I say pop.

Disorient and disorientate are both functional words of the English language, their usage cannot be accurately described in terms of regional dialects, sociolects, and formality register. Users of each can be found across many categories, and some people don't consistently use one form over the other. "-ate" is a productive morpheme of English anyway, which makes both forms grammatically correct. And no, I'm not talking about prescriptive grammar kids are made to learn at school and the **** people like to argue about referring to themselves or others as "grammar nazis", I mean "grammar" in a descriptive sense, items and rules that can be inferred from the way language is used.

A contentious aspect of this, however, is that the form "orientate"/"disorientate" is much more common in British English (and dialects closer to British than American, like Australian) than in American English, and that it is viewed by some as incorrect, or secondary, or colloquial (this opinion is very common with American English, and less common but not nonexistent with British English speakers). Some think that this is actually the proper form. Neither is technically correct, but in actuality there may be reasons to chose one over the other. It mostly depends on the target audience, and the context of usage. When your target audience is people on the Internet, use the form that people are least likely to loudly complain about. In this case this is probably "disorient", but as I have no data collected via a scientific process, I really don't know. Either way someone will complain Blink I would recommend using a synonym that has no such problem.

People who do worldwide marketing have to deal with this kind of stuff. Literally, every word matters in ads and promos. I'm curious now if CCP chose "disorientated" on purpose, after considering the effect of this lexical item as opposed to "disoriented" or if it's just the writer's preferred form.

Ah, yeah! I totally forgot about this terminology. As part of my curriculum in the last years of my final degree I took a course in animation and this concept was briefly mentioned... thanks for reminding me about this concept!

But it's a great controversy!

I watched it again and managed to stay focused (as opposed to drift of out of boredom)...
First and foremost, why is this actress so angry? I mean, it sounds like she's utterly pissed for some reason, especially when she says "it's always disorientating the first time" it sounds like I've done something horrible. I'm just waiting for her to bring out a whip to punish me, but instead it just continues a rather awkward monologue.

Secondly, if hadn't played eve before watching this, I would not have any idea of what was going on, and even less of a clue as to what EVE is about. And thus I wouldn't feel particularly compelled to try the game.

Awkward script, non-informative and confusing for people not already familiar with EVE (which I am assuming is the target audience).

Many parts of the trailer were excellent. I can see how some people didn't like it, but they should really get over themselves.

I agree, especially since I don't think it's purpose is to be a trailer.

The actress REALLY looked like she doesn't like acting, just the way she came across, she'd rather be elsewhere. What?

I think she was just channeling the eve attitude... you know where nothing is ever good enough?

What did it for me was the pausing for dramatic effect >_< oh man, I need to play Mass Effect 3 so I can experience good voice acting I guess I'll have to settle for playing Dawn of War right now.

I don't like that sort of cinematic style, assumes responses that I would not give.

Additionally, the acting was stilted, strained and the enunciation felt forced.

Perhaps...its because she's jealous? She may be just a low-pay tech in a facility that panders to the 0.0000000000001% of the entire population who can ascend to functional immortality.

I thought it was an appropriate behavior of someone who processes these 'eggers' by the dozens everyday, knowing she can never join our ranks, and that the only thing keeping her from sabotaging the operation is the knowledge that she'll be fired and never work again.

I liked the video, whats needed before this would be a revamp of the original video showing Eve history (see link below, sorry having trouble embedding the link). Then this vid, followed by the CDIA orientation vid. These 3 need to be played in this sequence and featured as such in the new (and awesome) Eve website.

I don't know. I somehow get the feeling that nothing about pods is “low-pay” — capsuleers are too rich to care about the rounding errors that a normal person's paycheck amount to and demand perfect service, so why would the facilities skimp on pay and (by extension) quality?

Then again, it could just be “low-pay” relatively speaking, which would cause a double effect: she's immensely well paid compared to the common man and has a high-status job, which yields the arrogance that comes with that, but she “only” makes three fortunes a day, compared to the lazy and malingering bosses and higher-ups who earn fourteen fortunes and all they're doing is skipping the office for a full day space-golf, which causes resentment for how under-appreciated her work is.

Fixed, and yes. The attitude was the one thing I think they got right — now whether it was planned or a result of so-so acting is the real question… P

The premise was cool, but the actress was tragically born without a personality.

WELL PILOT WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR BEEP BOOP "TAUNT" WITH NO INFLECTION

Sort of reminded me of Queen Amidala's monotone CHANNTHALOR BLAH THE FEDERATION TREATY TREATY BLAH or those low budget live action Command and Conquer briefings, where said actors were CLEARLY doing a favor for the developers.

I don't think CCP knows how to tell a story. You want to hook people with a trailer; You want to be intrigued to the point that they want to be a part of the action. I've seen some of that in previous EVE trailers, this one, not so much. Woman is cute, but, I want to see a storyline that makes me want to join in, I want to see cool battles that make me want to be part of the battle too.

EVE really is an epic game, but for some reason CCP has no idea how to talk about it. CCP: start a contest. Let your players create their own trailers, pick the best one, use it, gift the winner with a titan or something. Also, consider starting a web series; SAG new media contracts are pretty cheap, and there are a lot of good actors that play ;)

Does the new video remind anyone else of the cutscenes from Dune 2000 & Emperor: battle for Dune?
