Duel box tengu+proteus missions, worth the hassle or just run the tengu (better skills)?

I have an alt running missions in a tengu, and an alt on another account I'm training for a proteus. The latter can fly the proteus not that efficiently, as I am still working on T2 blasters/rails but already has decent drone skills (T2 small/medium and T1 sentries/heavy with good support skills).
I also have a third alt with a noctis for salvage.

I wonter if its worth the hassle to run L4s in 3 way, with the tengu and proteus running (missiles+sentries/rails) and the noctis pilot waiting to come in for quick salvage + giving some boost from skills in a safe spot, or it will take longer?

Some missions the tengu can just finish quickly, others it takes a bit longer.

Cheers.

since you'll have t2 med guns anyway, it won't take much time to train t2 large guns and bs level 1 so you can get into vindicator. this will be better help for lvl4 missions in addition to tengu since the biggest time sink is getting rid of all the battleship rats. of course I'm talking about rails here. you don't need good BS tank if you grab all initial aggro with tengu and then kill all the new waves' BS rats fast enough.

as of the proteus, well you may use it as drone platform which is way less dps than vindicator will give you, plus it's severely delayed - even more than the missiles dps. as of blaster proteus - forget it - rats will be long dead from tengu before you get into range. in any event it's unlikely you'll be able to manage both tengu and proteus at the same time efficiently since they both require constant attention. with long range gunner it's much simplier - you give it a target and can manage tengu until the target is dead, then switch to another target and go back to tengu, etc.

sentry drones proteus may feel more like large gunner but I doubt it's capable of the same dps that proper BS is capable of (which is, 800-1100 ish @ 60km plus falloff in case of hybrids)

Why don't you get BRAVE, try it for yourself...and report back with results.

Thanks, I was considering a BS.
Problem is that its slow as hell, and in missions where I have to move quite a few KMs, the tengu will be able to finish almost the whole next area before the BS gets in the pocket.

This is exactly the approach I take to my w-space farming ... with a booster alt in fleet sitting quietly in a background window. The last time I ran a lvl4 mission (nullsec with angels) I ran a two-ship tengu fleet, but never bothered with salvage.

The approach is entirely do-able, but whether it's worth the hassle ... only you can decide.

A decent tengu can tank anything that a lvl4 mission can throw at it, so a mediocre second ship can easily enough fly in on the tengu's coat-tails and add some extra damage ... all the while taking care not to inherit the site aggro.
IMO the follow-up noctis is not worth the hassle, but then I don't see mission salvage as being worth the effort. Sometimes the loot (especially tags in nullsec missions) is worth a little time, but I reckon time spent salvaging is better spent on the next mission. Just my tuppence.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Gank fit the BS with a 100mn MWD. Let the tengu take the agro, works for me.

So to fit a pvp mag?
I tried yesterday with my myr because my proteus was a good jumps away.
I was able to take the frigates quickly with it while my tengu cleared the elite cruisers ans BSs.
The myr did get aggro sometimes from spawns. Since it has an AB and dual rep, it didn't have any problems. But Im not sure about pvp mag without a decent repair. I never tried a buffer pvp or low repair for pve if it does get aggro. Especially with low gun skills.

And regarding salvage, i usually get 4 to 8 mil isk from salvage, depends on the mission, and it takes a few minutes to do so in a skilled noctis alt. From small missions, i don't bother.

NO, it is not.

Some missions aren't even worth salvaging, and some you just blitz for the LPs.

Always remember Tovil-Toba, and what was done there.

I have a similar set-up: tengu + noctis. But 3rd alt has a tornado. I find something to orbit in the tengu and agro the whole room, then warp in the tornado and shoot all the fish in the barrel. it's so easy it feels like cheating.

I use either a NM or an arty fit maelstrom as the partner for my Tengu and let them take care of the BS's. While they are gank fit they do have enough buffer and a xl shield booster for just in case. So the BS works BS down with its guns, the light drones on frigs and the tengu starts on cruisers and works up to BS, or any scramming frigs.

Quick question somewhat related to this: Is a solo Proteus good for Level 4 mission running? I hear Tengu is king, but I'm somewhat committed to Gallente now, so was wondering. Would the Proteus' speed (if it's fast) make up for long range targets?

I personally hate dual boxing, but at one point I ran missions in my Nightmare while my alt was orbiting it in a tengu with FOFs. This way I only had to alt tab when I heard that ammo ran out. Was a lot faster even with FOFs poor indiscriminate choice of targets. Hope this helps

I use a dominix for gallente agent level 4s, but i would probably own both a sentry ishtar and a proteus if I was sticking to cruiser sized ships, and use which ever was most appropriate for the mission at hand.
