Give more skills for the Planetary Industrialist to evolve

This profession is a little limited in terms of skills, I reached the full potential of my alts that do PI in 3 months.

I want to propose more Planet Management skills so the players that follow the Planetary Industrialist have more things to train and improve their specialization:

New Skills to Maximizing Colony Efficiency:


Link Management Efficiency
Decreases the CPU and Powergrid needs per KM to a maximum of 25% at level 5.

Warehousing Management Efficiency
Increases the capacity of Silos, Spaceports and Command Center to a maximum of 20% at level 5.

Range Extraction Efficiency
Increases the range of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 15% at level 5.

Extraction Yield Efficiency
Increases the cycle yield of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 10% at level 5.

Energy Extraction Efficiency
Decreases the powergrid usage needs for each Extractor Head deployed to a maximum of 10% at level 5.

Electronics Industrial Efficiency
Decreases the CPU usage needs of any Industrial facility to a maximum of 10% at level 5.

* Barren Extraction Yield Specialization
Increases the cycle yield of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 7.5% in Barren planets.
* Gas Extraction Yield Specialization
Increases the cycle yield of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 7.5% in Gas planets.
* Ice Extraction Yield Specialization
Increases the cycle yield of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 7.5% in Ice planets.
* Lava Extraction Yield Specialization
Increases the cycle yield of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 7.5% in Lava planets.
* Oceanic Extraction Yield Specialization
Increases the cycle yield of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 7.5% in Oceanic planets.
* Plasma Extraction Yield Specialization
Increases the cycle yield of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 7.5% in Plasma planets.
* Storm Extraction Yield Specialization
Increases the cycle yield of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 7.5% in Storm planets.
* Temperate Extraction Yield Specialization
Increases the cycle yield of Extractor Control Unit to a maximum of 7.5% in Temperate planets.

* it needs Extraction Yield Efficiency L5 to train

Seems like it would enhance PI as a profession.

There would have to be some balancing, but those who put the time in for the extra skills should be able to reap the PI rewards.

Since we will see merging with Dust "soon", I am sure CCP have more PI skills already planed and prepared for deployment.

CCP really please dont use Upgraded, Limited, Experimental and Prototype in item names. It sounds like the item is actually worse than basic meta 1 item. Use Calibrated, Enhanced, Optimized and Upgraded. Its really easy to understand that the item is better than meta 1 and its also in alphabetic order.

I dunno...PI is supposed to be a kind of mini profession. I wouldn't necessarily argue to more skills to train...we could always use more skills to train but I am not sure they are NEEDED as you can already make a crapload of money in PI for almost no startup as it is.

I am not sure about this one...I won't shoot it down but I won't vote for it right now either.

It would be good to have a bit extra development to get more out of your networks, a new player mentioned that he was going to make his character run PI and I told him that it was more of a sideline as there were only a handful of skills to deal with so he'd probably want to look other things to do in game once he was all set up running his planets.

It will still be a side profession but skills like this will make it a little more involving and rewarding.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

I do agree that PI needs a higher ceiling. I'm also guessing a lot of progress will be made to PI for DUST.

Adding skills to increase the amount of materials extracted/processed is not something I support however. The more supply is brought to market the lower prices will be, which means I'll need to produce more as well to keep up. More production means I have to haul more for the same return. PI in lowsec, with your own POCOs and good planets and good, relatively safe space (which isn't so easy to come by) pays about as much per hour as running level 4s with high skills. I wouldn't say the balance needs to be changed much.

Some skills for convenience, like extraction range modifiers and storage capacity would be welcome, of course :)

PI was designed from the start to be very low barrier to entry, to make everyone equally able to participate. Any additional skills added to improve efficiency will raise the barrier to entry because you will need certain skills to be competitive at all (Production Eff 5 anyone?).

I'm all for increasing PI's higher ceiling and raising the barrier of entry into competitiveness.

New players will still be easily able to enter PI and make some isk. They just wont be doing it as well as people who have been doing it longer.

This is a very correct note. I, however, would argue, that impact of this kind in PI would not be so overwhelmingly important.

Being a pure manufacturer, you essentially are working within a margin - you have fixed costs of raw materials, so an entry barrier becomes very high when competitors are maxed out. Extracting business - in a certain sense - has entry barrier close to zero.

(Granted, I am omitting opportunity costs. Yes, "what I mine is free" attitude is wrong from economical perspective. Just , I am certain, in reality this concept lies way beyond what many accept as "game" and "fun". )

Now, PI is both extracting and refining. If additional skills will make you more efficient, this effectively will start to separate "PI miners" and "PI manufacturers". The first will not care so much (mostly), the second will be affected pretty strong. Is it good or bad or ambivalent... I don't know Smile

The above I can get behind. You did not specify training times; I could see these as a x5 since the maxes are not too bad.

As mentioned by others, I agree that making certain aspects more convenient is fine (making a CC hold/launch more would be the best overall change). Just flat out extracting more product, however, is not (still need to work for it).
