Capital Mining Ship

Yeah, I am going there.

There should be a capital mining ship capable of mining massive amounts, and should have a relatively large amount of storage (1/2 of an orca), as well as 6 Strip Miners.

Why? Because I am sick of people complaining about mining being tedious and not worth the time. This ship could be designed specifically to mine a specific type of ore(s) in low and null sec (including WH's).

The hulk was designed for this, but lets be honest for a minute here, it doesn't take much to take one down.

Also, lets nerf Hi Sec mining... why can bots fly around in Hi Sec and make ridiculous amounts of ISK, while Low and Null sec miners risk their ships constantly for little return. That is where this ship comes in.

6 mining high slots
6 turret hardpoints
100m3 drone bay

required skills
Capital Ships
Capital Industrial ships

Obviously they would have to train skills in both offensive and mining in order to be able to pilot this, I would also propose adding the following skill

Capital Industrial Defense Ship

5% bonus to mining yield, turret range, turret HP, and shield amount per level.

It may be a dumb idea, but that is why we post, to get opinions.

Besides, it would make a beautiful killmail come Hulkageddon Twisted

I am curious to see what everyone thinks!

No, because it will nuke the mineral market.

Why can no one ever understand that any ship added isn't just for you to use, every single bot out in null will have it within the week too?

It'll never happen. People need to get over the idea and stop posting it (or atleast use the freaking search before posting the same idea over and over).

It will not nuke the mineral market if you appropriately nuke the drone drops, and the hi sec belts. Hi sec is far too easy to mine in, and low sec is far too dangerous (to a point).

This would provide a way of mining in those areas where it could actually be a worthy investment.

Botting has dropped pretty dramatically since they nuked RR, and while there are botters, mineral prices are going back up.

Mining is boring, the only way it isn't boring is when you are stuck in a dangerous situation where you have to watch your back all the time.

Sure null sec botters can be a pain, but they are going to do it no matter what. All of the arguments against these types of changes stem from the existence of bots, so kill the damn bots by making it worth my time to mine.

actually this would be a good answer to the off grid rorq.

The biggest problem I have with the rorqual is that people park the thing safely in a POS before mining.

If you had a capitol ship that actually had to sit at belt or grav site you'd see a lot more combat.

Hi sec should be ewasy to mine in. Hi sec should be easy to do ANYTHING in (expect Market PvP) becasue its hi sec. Doesnt mean that you cant be blown the hell up, but still...Hi sec isnt Low Sec or 0.0.

Yes, and the thing can actually put up a fight (hence the weapons). This is basically a set of teeth for a carebear, and an enticing target for PVP corps. If sufficiently boosted, it would outstrip 2 or 3 hulks.

Yeah, and the rorq parking thing is truly a broken part of the game. The thing should have to be on grid to provide bonus's, and taking down a POS shield to get at it typically isn't a viable option.

If you want highsec to be easy then it should pay out as well as something that is difficult, and that includes mining veldspar.

The nullsec and lowsec miner should have more options to increase their volume available to them. So given the choice it should always be more appealing to mine even the crappiest roids in more dangerous areas of the game.

I dunno about the idea of having guns on it but I do like the idea of a capital mining ship.

Umm

No, why?

(1)

We don't need another capital ship in highsec, if you ship is going to be a capital miner, it can't be able to leave lowsec and nullsec.

(2)

You underestimate the mining ability of hulks........ even with the risk in low and null sec.

(3)

Your proposal of nerfing highsec mining and introducing this ship would just move the macro's from high sec to nullsec.....
I'd rather have them in highsec where i can keep an eye on them.

Plus there is plenty of systems in place to deal with bot's, petitions, hulkageddon, your own personal ganking.......

Also, as someone else has already stated, "it would nuke the mineral market" and this would make the super cap number problem even worse..........

Capital mining ship,hmmm. Maybe a version of the orca with strip miners would work easier? Take out the gang assist mods and add more high slots. 4 mining slots and 2 hard points. The hard points could be used for Gas Mining options or Defense guns.

This is an easy way to please most miners.

The problem is that whilst you constantly have miners QQing that mining is boring, and should be buffed, when you suggest buffing it by removing (or reducing the effectiveness) of AFK mining you get a shitstorm of tears.

There have been numerous threads suggesting buffing of scan down mining sites, with high payouts for a short amount of time spent mining (so you can't just scan a site, leave your bot there for 6 hours and come back later either). Which seems like a good idea to me, since bots can't scan it would allow real players to mine more, faster. They just wouldn't be able to do it AFK since they'd have to go out hunting.

Judging from the responses I've seen in the past it boils down to three points against that kind of proposal:

1) Some miners won't leave high sec. Ever. They perceive every system below 0.5 sec as an impenetrable wall of death.

2) Some miners like AFK mining, and hate the idea of having to actively search for resources.

3) A lot of miners refuse to join corps or alliances to help keep them safe. And as a result none but the quietest of systems are safe

there already are miner capital ships, We know them as a fail Revelation, fail Moros, fail Naglfr, and superfail pheonix.

Your beginning premise is flawed.

The reason that people say that mining "isn't worth the time" is because mineral prices are so low. And the reason the prices are so low is because there are too many players attempting to sell too many minerals on the market. It's basic supply and demand.

Working as intended. None of the barges are combat ships. Even the Rorqual has sub-par defenses compared to its class counterparts (i.e. its defenses are weaker than a carrier's).

The reason high-sec mining bots make "so much ISK" relative to other high-sec players is because they can continually mine 23.5/7... an actual player needs to sleep/go to work/eat/poop/worship the ladyfriend/etc.
In other words... mining bots make ISK through sheer volume of what they mined... market prices be damned. And this causes the mineral prices depreciate even further.

Sorry, no. This solution will only make things worse for your small scale miners and give major boosts to alliance and SOV level miners as they can actually keep these "monster rock suckers" safe behind gatecamps at certain chokepoints.

I dunno sounds like it could be entertaining, hell I'd want to see a industrial Titan and have it literally eat roids, then have some cd of processing it into ore, could be awsome Cool
