If I want to build something on a planet using a factory, can I keep all the inputs in storage facility or do they each need a separate one? If they need separate ones, can I set one storage facility to feed multiple factories?

You can route everything through a single storage facility/Launchpad (launchpad, these days, are slightly smaller than a storage facility. but otherwise are fully usable for storing stuff)

Most people run
Extractors -> launchpad -> factories -> the same launchpad -> advanced factories -> the same launchpad.

Even though the launchpad is smaller it's awesome to rout everything through it because you can just pick up and drop off with out having to manipulate the planet every few days.

The PI facilities are different to their POS equivalents. The PI storage facilities, command centres, and launchpads can store and route any / all of the planetary materials. The only limits are their storage space and the amount of grid/CPU that the routing takes.

You can, therefore, setup single-planet industry that harvests one or more basic material and then processes to produce higher level materials. The classics here are probably enriched uranium and mechanical parts, although no doubt lots of others too (http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Planetary_Commodities).

The benefit of this is less hauling between planets, and being slightly more set-and-forget. The downside is that it's usually not making as efficient use of the available planetary resources as other approaches.

We run some fairly intensive PI with a heap of harvest-and-P1-process-only planets feeding into five dedicated factory planets that produce all our PI-POS-fuel-constituents and a selection of P4 materials. This provides rather nice isk but is fairly labour intensive ... awful PI clickfests and regular hauling.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.
