I know someone who has a kid with Asperger's Syndrome and he faces many challenges, none of which involves terrible posting on an internet spaceship game forum.

It's just a insult, or curse if you will, e.g. wishing harm upon someone for which illnesses and afflictions are quite in vogue now that asking god to damn everything has lost it's power.

If you get insulted by that then the problem lies 100% with you. Just stop being insulted by it. I don't get insulted either when I see people calling others fat ugly neckbears. Even though I am in fact fat, ugly and in need of a shave.

Yes it's very sad that there are people who have such illnesses or syndromes or afflictions or whatever. But that's the point in the wishing it upon someone else as an insult.

It is very sad, that your trivialising and generalising of this issue in the guise of popular culture in any way seriously represents anything other than the lack of any values by some people. I fail to see anything to respect about it at all.

There's a big difference between being able to not be emotionally affected by crass insults and accepting them as "valued". Case and point: You simply say stop being affected by them, but then say that there is purpose to an insult? What kind of garbage are you trying to make people swallow here?

Obviously as this site and the game in fact are CCP's property they can damn well ask us to do what they want, up to and including the not mentioning of specific species of fish if they so wish. As such they have the full right to censor all the nasty insults all over the forums and apply full consequences of those broken rules. For some reason they don't unless it actually gets out of hand.

and oh god the "values" argument. Should I start thinking of the children as well? The point I'm making is that if you get insulted by something someone does or says without them even vaguely attempting to insult you, then you are doing it wrong and should HTFU. Too many people in this world feel it's their right to cry victim over every little thing they don't like and imho it's just pathetic.

Well in that case surely it is an insult to the minority group of choice that you are using for the expletive? Blink

I'll simply say to avoid appearing prudish that there are higher levels of wit than having to resort to using associative terms of disadvantaged groups and yes I think the ability to discern the difference is important.

The CSM is an advocacy group based on persuasion. Someone on the Autism spectrum, or god-forbid self-diagnosing themselves, has no place on the group, since the entire point is being able to understand social cues and get policies through.

I, in fact, distinctly recognize that. (I would suck at that job, for a myriad of reasons. As excited as I would be at a chance to meet the CCP devs... I'm not cut for politics, even of the video-game-related flavor.) I'm just not sure the best way to appeal to constituents is by insulting a group of them. Although I suppose, as an ally of Goons... I should not just be insulted, I should be doing a fair bit of the insulting myself. :) Don't worry, Mittens, I support you either way. You're our Space King.
