hello all,

started playing a couple weeks ago and love the game. so much to learn though.

ive got a decent grip on which skills to learn for my profession (trading with some exploration and hauling)

i also have evemon installed and have played around with it enough to have a good idea how it works wih creating a skill plan and optimizing my attributes to speed up skill training time.

im looking to create a 6 month plan with my profession skills in addition to my general piloting skills. what im looking for is some advice on what are the neccessary all round skills i should have for piloting all different ship types, and any skills i should have in general that arent related too my profession. im guessing there are some general skills that anyone should skill up to level IV in eve online and i would like to know which ones they are so i can implement them into my skill plan before i remap my attributes for the first time.

any advice is welcome, especially if anyone could point me to some sort of a guide if one exists.

A good starting point will be to use the certificates as a rough guide, they can be found on your character sheet under skills. The Core and Defence certificates are good ones to look at to get your ships up to scratch, they include skills for improving power grid, cpu, capacitor, armor, shields, agility and speed, which are good for all the ships you'll fly.

With EVEmon you can open a plan and use the ship and items browser to look at ships and modules that you may wish to use. From the description window you can add the skills required to use them to the plan you have open, allowing you to tailor the plan for particular ships or setups.

Another handy tool to use in conjunction with EVEmon is EVE Fitting Tool which you can use to test fittings before you fly it in the game. EFT can export fits into EVEmon from which you can create skill plans.

It might be worth checking out EveHQ which is EVEmon and EFT combined and then some, so it makes it easier to build a skill plan from the ships and fittings that you want to use.

You can also show info on a given ship. Then look at the suggested certificates for that ship.
If you want to haul looking at your racial industrial core skills would be a good bet. Using EvEmon you can look at all the trade skills.

I would also suggest a corp, they can give more personal advice and make they game more fun as you have people to fly with.

Hello Spetznak Sokarad,

I would recommend looking at the different Certificates that you can find in your Character Sheet. There are a lot of certificates for specific ships. If you click on a specific certificate it tells you what kind of ship(s) that it would apply to. Now remember that Certificates are only guides in what skills you should have. See http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Certificates for more information on certificates.

As said before, the Core and Defense certificates are quite handy to have skilled as they will benefit every single ship in EVE. And when looking at ships they show which skills you need to sit in them (prerequirements) and they also will tell which certificates are good to have to be able to pilot it better.

Like said before too, EVEHQ is quite a nice program, you can try out different fits in there and when you found 1 you like you can look at which skills you need and add them to a skill plan.

Good list. Only thing I'd add is Navigation 5 (sub-warp speed) and Afterburner 4 (for t2 afterburners)..

The basic things you're looking for are things that effect your ships speed, agility, armor, shields, capacitor, CPU and Power Grid. These will be things that are useful no matter what ship you are flying.

How much you train them and when you do it are up to you. While these skills effect how good a ship you fly - they don't actually have a direct impact on what you are doing to make money, they just give you a better ship to do it with.

In addition to those mentioned above, a few more:

Ship Integrity:

Mechanic - Increases your Structures hit points
Hull Upgrades - Increases your Armor Hit Points
Shield Management - increases strength of your shield
Shield Operation - increases the recharge rate of your shield

All four of these skills give you a stronger ship, before using modules or rigs. Each of them increses the effectiveness of it's area by 5% per level - which means - an increase of 20-25% depending on whehter or not you train them to IV or V. An increase like that - that takes up no slots or used on Cap, CPU or PG is well worth having.

Also check out your Navigation skills - most of these either save Cap Directly - or - reduce the amount of cap you need to use to do something by doing it faster.

Weapons Upgrades - allows you to use less CPU to fit weapons
Advanced Weapons Upgrades - allows you to use less PG to fit weapons
