Scriptable UI

As it is already suggested by the Thread`s Title. By following the so common Paradigm to separate the View from the Programs Logic, separate the UI from the Clients Core and Glue it together trough some Scripting Api (be it LUA or Python or whatever).

Best Example for that is the WoW UI which is pretty far ahead speaking of User Interfaces of Games in general (at least in possibilitys to configure it).

After that...let the community (yay more Crowd Sourcing) do the tedious Improvements.

No.

Everybody have to use exactly the same UI, and if UI isn't very friendly, fighting it is part of the game. I don't want WoWified Eve where addons give you huge advantage.

I dont see where an obviously outdated and ugly User Experience (in thise case, the Usage Experience) which everyone has to "hassle" with, is somthing which is "keep worthy" for balance issues.
Sure you have to balance the Information which the Client Core is providing to the Api but to be honest: I think a full customizeable Toolbar, Scanner, Ship-UI and Overview is something the whole Game would profit not just a small fraction of the Playerbase.
Also, I like the Idea of giving more Indication about Fleet Performance (speak Damage Meters) and Production and Management supporting Extensions trough Add Ons to the Playerbase.
Having Tools like PyFa and Eve-Mon implemented INGAME trough some Api would be a blast and at least CCP must not spend Dev Resources on such Tasks but the Game`s Handling and Usability Improves (from an external Viewpoint) further.

Wait, what? Have you seen the WoW interface?

In order to play competitively in wow the number of rubbish addons you "need" is insane, and the screen clutter becomes tremendous. I much prefer Eve's approach, where everyone is on a level playing field and the UI can be kept relatively minimal as a result.

Here's the thing.

WOW == PVE 100% of the time (and at least 95% of the time on the "PVP" servers)
EVE == PVP 100% of the time.

any modifications that give you an edge for EVE will become the "standard" that you need to have/use ... thus your "customised" UI turns into "you need a,b,c,d, and e. If you don't have these, you're not coming on our roam."

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Yes, i have seen the WoW UI and from an Artistic Viewpoint it isnt very pretty... but from an technological viewpoint it surely is. And there are quite some VERY pretty WoW UI`s out there who are solely made trough community efforts thanks to an scriptable UI.

And the Argument towards PvP and PvE doesnt even count. Every "Edge" you gain counts in both playstyles and theorycrafting and min-maxing is widly used and adopted right now. This does not related whatsoever to the UI. Blizzard even responds to good Addon Ideas (which improve customer expierience) by integrating them into their default UI later (Map, Quest Tracking, Timers and Buff Bars).

I dont see why CPP couldnt also "learn" that way from their customers.

Yes I've seen some pretty impressive WoW UIs, and most of them aren't competitive in PvP. They're PvE characters with nothing more than a DPS graph and raid helper. The average users interface for WoW in PvP is a hideous mess.

Blizzard also bans and breaks certain functionality in addons, and with good reason. Addons are also banned for use in tournament events, players must play in official WoW tournaments with the basic UI due to the "edge" some addons provide.

Addons like those you describe cover everything, from providing information on enemy's timers in PvP to giving an in-game walkthrough in PvE activities. This is not something many people would like to see in Eve, in fact the lack of addons like this are seen as a plus by the majority of players.
