So ,
There's all sorts of buzz going on about the WOD fan fest in New Orleans this weekend.
Last year there was a fairly cool teaser ... although reflected off an audience members bald head...Is there a new one?

From the announcements ..it looks like a pretty cool game..perma -death and all that.

WOD annoucements

And to the fifty trolls... .WOD is happening.... They aren't going to slow down on it ...or even scrap it as I have heard some suggest.

I think they deleted that old teaser by accident as always. If not then I dont understand why nobody can upload it on CCPGAMES channel. We need something to fap on till 2014 Oops

It's either that, or he expects the twilight emos to do so. I hope CCP really manages to capture the D in WoD and send those people into shock. Twisted

Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.

Donovan and I were at the 2p MMO conference here at TGM. CCP Producer Chris and others were present and we got lots of new info. Before I start let me preface, the game is still in pre-production, they were very clear NOTHING is set in stone, as things stated today may still change. But as of now the facts listed below are the current stances of the direction of the game.

Eddy Webb mentioned in the Q&A before the MMO panel 'EVE is player vs player ******* each other. That is the kind of games CCP makes' - Very interesting and telling IMO.

  • The producers stated their philosophy in making this MMO was "human interaction". They feel that is limited in the current crop of MMO's and their biggest weakness.

  • They are trying to emulate the feel of LARPing more then EVE or any other game system with this MMO

  • There will be a general CCP run metaplot that develops over time but the main metaplots will be left for the players to drive forward.

  • Next year is when more specific info and details will come out

  • Incarna is actually considered a prototype, the rendering engine that will ship with the MMO will be much more advanced.

  • Everyone starts as a mortal, becoming kindred in optional and can not be forced on you. You can play he entire game as a mortal only.

  • There will be final death for both mortals and kindred.

  • PvP will be more limited in some ways, yet more open in others then any other current MMO.

  • There will be cities (plural) and communication between them (the various kindred and clans) will be encouraged/possible.

  • Caitiff will NOT be in on release. They discussed it internally and couldn't find a way to make them work in a way they liked.

  • Casual players will find the game accessible but hard core players will have a much deeper experience and more rewards/benefits.

  • Considering some kind of web site access interface for the MMO

  • NO day/night cycle, only night.

  • Humanity is a stat is game and one use is to address griefers. The more you cause issues for other players, break the masq, etc the more you can loose humanity and once it gets too low other players (and NPCs?) can attack you (implied even if you flag yourself non-pvp).

  • Griefers will suffer both in game and if serious enough out of game penalties (ie account banning)

  • Helps to make friends and not enemies in game as you can not get to the top of the food chain without networking and having friends to assist you.

  • Players will have havens.

  • Players can climb the ladder and get to Prince levels of power and run a city

  • Can get to Prince level power without killing a single thing, all done via networking, politics and friendships

  • ONLY kindred on release of game, no were's, mages, etc. However those other supernaturals may be used in a NPC fashion or/and their lore appear in game.

  • MMO character sheet very similar to the V:tM PnP character sheet.

  • Character names over the avatars head by default turned off, but can turn them on.

  • Game world/environment will change over time; real in game consequences for player actions.

  • Diablerie and related game mechanics from the PnP game is "under heavy discussion" no decision as of now.

  • Dynamic NPC missions/World events

  • One world server, no shards/instancing.

  • Torpor in game but not used as in PnP game, used as a mechanic to explain why a kindred did not die/final death

  • They are aware the WoD is is a adult setting and the devs are going to not shy away from gore, blood and nudity. However such will have a reason and not adult content for the sake of adult content.

We have video of the panel that Donovan took. Going to try to get that online soon, also after to go though the notes may follow up with more tidbits this post missed but I am pretty sure this is the core of what was said. We also have the Succubus club event tonight that has been hinted even more MMO info will be released so we will see tonight!

I dont want them to scrap it, I want them to get on with it! This is THE gameworld I would want to live in the most. Obviously they are going to use the carbon technology of incarna in it, and that is all kinds of awesome.

And to people who seem misguided about the World of darkness IP: its very, very far from emo. Age of conan I laugh at thee! Its a crapsack world similar to Eve.
In fact I was pretty sure they would never make another computer game from world of darkness, as I felt its too hardcore for modern audience.

To quote someone elses comment on one of the sites, "The game is not targeted at emo glittervampires, but they will inevitably come no matter what. Then everyone can target them too!"

Perma death probably just means a reset or loss of some skills. EVE already technically has this but then negates it in practice with the cloning system. I speculate that WoD will be no different with it's torpor system.

Not sure about this name though, might need something else, Baron Headerman sounds weird.

Ok Im gonna brainstorm here some things and ideas about WoD and about what CCP has told us so far.

One of the things that worries me most, revolve around the single open server approach.
Eve is a game about space battles, and about the entire galaxy. Having huge space battles of hundreds or thousands of players at the same time feels 'all right' in Eve lorewise.

However, world of darkness is almost exactly opposite. It is a game of 'personal horror' and there should only be a handful of vampires at most at a given site. Its not about open massive warfare, its about 'small gangs or solo'. I hope CCP takes this into account in designing the game, as having overpopulated areas could completely destroy the atmosphere in the game (at least if most of them are vampires instead of humans). And with vampires, atmosphere is extremely important. There is however no theoretical reason why it COULDN't work, it just requires a conscious effort to ensure that the players are suitably separated and the game world is designed accordingly.

The game being mainly instance-driven would be an obvious solution to this, however if CCP feels they do it their way, open world, thats their prerogative. I just wanted to issue a warning.

Secondly, this game allows a huge chance to finally make a MMO that isnt about 'the grind', ie. killing endless hordes of NPCs. The vampires have a multitude of abilities that are about social interaction or dialog. For instance in the pc game vampire the masquerade:bloodlines, you have lots of different abilities, some of them clan-specific, to use in dialog with NPCs. Manipulation, intimidation, seduction, and clan-specific stuff like dominate or malkavian's insight etc. All of these give extra dialog options in VtMB. I really really really hope that CCP takes this chance and gives us these abilities ingame that allow interactions other than just pulling the trigger of your gun.

A vampire in WoD doesn't have to kill anybody, since feeding doesn't necessarily kill the target. CCP saying that they make a MMO about social interaction sounds simply too great to be true. :)

...more at a later time.

All right, since I wasnt at grand masquerade: what are the seven clans that are supposed to be playable at launch?

Quote:

What you saw last night are the starting clans. That was the big reveal: Those seven clans are going to be the starting playable clans at launch.

These were mentioned in the comments, but I guess not verified? Most likely true though, just checking.

the 7 cam. clans are:
- toreador
- Tremere
- Ventrue
- Gangrel
- Brujah
- Malkavian
- Nosferatu

Um....

Why can't we attack all criminals in EvE without sec status penalty of sorts?

What is griefing? Not like I don't know what that is in Eve, but this question will come up, and claims against someone of being griefed, will be used as a form of griefing.
