Overview Tab switching ON THE FLY :)

i came across a thread made a couple of days ago regard multiple overview windows.

i like this idea a lot. just tonight i was thinking something myself when making an OV profile for drones, and one for friendlies.

however, i have found one little flaw, which im not sure has been mentioned already. having loadsa OV windows may be.....messy for people who only have a single monitor....esspecially if its not a big one.

what i think would also be good to implement would be to assigning shortcuts to the tabs. lets say you are like myself, and use 5 OV tabs for the seperate profiles.....


i think CTRL and NUM 1-5 would be logical. or maybe CTRL and 1-5 on the standard number keys above the QWERTY as it would be more comfortable to feel with your hand when trying to match it with the positions of the tabs you see on screen. Hand-Eye, 2nd nature coordination and all that :P We have shortcuts for lots of stuff in eve, all for very good effect, even for stuff that we dont really need at a moments notice (WALLET, CHARACTER SHEET etc.) and of course the keyboard is a big place. so we might aswell have shortcuts for stuff that we do need at a moments notice, like our life saving overview profiles :) and i think this method to implement such a system is wise.

just some way to change a tab on the fly, without really having to think. i think my suggestion would be a good idea, however there could be something i am missing and someone here might be able to place any missing pieces into the puzzle. i do like the initial idea though. certainly a good idea for people who have the monitor space :)

Hint: Ctrl+1-8 are the 'lowslot' hotkeys. A better solution would be to just add it to the game with no hotkey and let us choose hotkeys for them.

I do like the idea of having hotkeys to change overview tabs though, I see no reason not to have that.

ctrl + alt + delete + 1-9 are not in use :)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I think that's CTRL+F1-F8. Like mids (ALT+F1-F8) and highs (F1-F8).

by current default ctrl+1,2,3 is overload rack high, mid and low... it of course can be reassigned to do something else.



I'm a little confused by the OP... when you talk about "multiple overview windows" are you talking about the overview tabs?

you can have up to 6 overview tabs preconfigured in the overview settings, with as many overview setups stored away to be used via the drop down. You can even do some html-fu and colour those tabs. Each tab occupies the same space on the screen so you don't lose anything only using one monitor. To switch you just need to click on the tab... so suggestion is "add shortcut to cycle through overview tabs?"



The confusion is because I think I saw a thread asking for side-by-side overviews so you could see two(+) at a time... we're not talking that are we?

Curiosity killed the Kata... ... but being immortal he wasn't too worried about keeping a count.

Basically what is eant by multiple OV windows is the ability to take a tab from you OV.....and make another OV out of it, perhaps on the oposite side of the screen. just like splitting tabs in your internet browser. you just click and hold the tab......move it, and hey presto, you have a new window :)

as i said, ideal for people who have massive monitors or whatever, but i like the idea i suggested earlier also for people who dont have the luxury.

if you check out recent posts in this forum for features and stuff, you will see someone has already suggested the idea of multiple OV windows. i was adding an attachment to that idea really.

perhaps having control over the hotkeys ourself would be good. just need to make sure that people know the function is there, how to assign hotkeys and away you go :)
