Orca for the solo player.

I have often thought about getting an orca. But for my solo way of playing I'm not to sure what I could use it for. I see the orca as the lead mining director in mining ops. Or as transport ships. But how can a solo player use this ship to make money?

Transport stuff in it. Hire yourself out to miners (who probably wouldn't trust you not to steal their ore... or to gankers to drop their ships for them.... then of course you aren't actually solo.

Frankly its near useless solo.

By using its unscannable, unlootable hangars to move ridiculously expensive stuff around under the protection of a silly amount of EHP from one place to the next to open up (or exploit) markets that exist because no-one would be insane enough to move that stuff around since doing so would make you a loot piñata.

People might gank an Orca for a lark, but with nearly 300k EHP and zero loot value, it's a particularly expensive lark. At the same time, you can fill it up with billions worth of stuff still and be very safe in your travels.

I regularly use an Orca as a solo player. Can't beat it as a 'carry all' for moving your stuff around empire. Especially useful for carrying fitted ships, though not big enough for bs.

As for making money in it, not really. Unless you have several accounts and run your own multi-toon mining ops.

I'm a solo player that uses an Orca, rarely to boost barges though, very handy ship to have.

Whomever is making the last few years decisions on what changes are to be implemented in this game, must hate Eve with all their being.

^^ …and as a result, you can see quite a lot of them trucking around from one incursion to the next, with people carrying their T3/logi/whatever combo in the hold so they can be prepared for whatever is needed in the next location. The Orca might not generate income directly, but it enables income generation that would otherwise be a fair bit less reliable.

Scam somebody into giving you one and then sell it.

If you mine jet cans a lot it will mean that the Orca will be able to ship them all at once, you can also move around a large amount of Ore at once too if you want to sell it in another region for bigger profits, it's like a freighter for miners in some ways but with less cargo space and more gadgets.

Even if you're going it solo a lot, it'll make you much more useful in mining ops too.

^^ This is the best use for an orca solo. I'll jump my transport alt into the orca when I want to move billion in the nice little corp hangers, 40km3 of space gives you lots of options for lots of expensive goodies that nobody will know you are hauling.

Also orca is great for managing PI factories, especially if you have multiple PI pilots all in the same solo corp. You can then fill the corp bay and the cargo bay with your materials and truck the orca to the plants while your PI pilot stays in a frig and transfer back and forth via the corp bay. No need to waste sp on hauling skills for your PI pilots now and you will have more than enough space to keep your factories filled with materials.

My High Sec alt has an Orca, big space truck. Handy for taking stuff to the edge of low sec, keep a blockade runner in the SMA, then just transfer stuff to my carrier.

Very useful tools.

Decent buffer tank too.

I really wish there was a high-sec ship that could carry a rigged BS, Noctis, T2/T3 cruiser and a few frigs or so - a complete missioning set of ships.

It's dumb how a freighter can't do that - my Charon's cargo bay is big enough to fly a Raven in there without even touching the sides, yet i need shrinkwrap to do that?!?.

Sometimes I wonder if CCP understands the meaning of "really freakin' BIG!" (Yes, I've heard of Titans, but they won't let carebears fly themUgh)

To the above clueless poster - transfer ships to alt, alt makes courier contract, you accept them in your freighter, hey presto!

Erm, guess you didn't get the shrinkwrap reference then?Roll Why should I need to use another character and a courier contract to park a ship in a hangar?

I was under the impression that the unscannable bay in the Orca had been considered a 'bug' by CCP, and that they'd 'fixed' it quite recently... I don't have one available to test the theory, but it'd be good to know for certain.

Orca is pretty usable for moving around anything smaller than a BS. Also it can be fitted to make quick jumps in about 15-20 seconds, which is lightning fast compared to moving a freighter.

I use mine to transport stuff to and from market. Holds big enough for a BS and several BCBlink

Mining drones and huge 0.0 asteroids + a few hours afk = great profit.

You'll need to be in a large alliance though then you're perfectly safe and anyone who says otherwise is an epeen driven nerd defending his imaginary rep of 'fearless nullsec warrior' who will stop at nothing to convince you he lives 'on the edge'.

Only for the purpose of smuggling illegal goods without attracting the attention of NPC customs officers. For normal player scanners, it's still as unscannable as ever, and I have seen no mention of them thinking about “fixing” it.
