CCP, how many subscriptions on the Chinese server.

Just curious what they get at peak times. We have around 50,000 , do they beat that?

CCP doesn't own the chinese server, they lease the IP to a Chinese gaming company. So I doubt they'll be able to answer.

Actually I just found the answer ; wikipedia says serenity is the chinese server, and here are their stats, record of 11 thousand, average 7 thousand, with 1,2 billion people, I thought they'd be more there, granted many are fairly poor there.;

Asians enjoy a different type of game. They enjoy grindy games with a more social networking/Facebook-like interaction/interface.

they also like cash shops

basically, asians want to play 16 hours a day and gain .0003% of a level, so they spend $100 on "super xp boosters" to get 10 times the XP.
after 2 years when they hit level 45 (max 100 of course) they will make a new character or buy flashy mounts and sit in town.

at some point there even was an invasion of euro players to chinese server. check FHC forums, i think they are still active. And i think it went very well for them. Chinese server has less conflict and their pvp strategies/doctrines/fits/EFTwarriors are somewhat lagging behind.
If you are interested to join, there was a huge guide how to register and setup chinese eve client and localize it. As well as many translations and usefull things.

Reportedly it is changing hands - the previous company that was running it is dumping it and it is moving to another company (which maybe puts more :effort: - it is still running very old build (Tyrannis?) because in China every damn update has to go through govt. approval and that takes money and effort)

average of 7 thousand with 1.2 billion population avail is fairly well on par with Tranquility, which has about 5.8 billion population avail,. . . you know, the rest of the world?

7 thousand average per 1.2 billion would be equivalent to 33.8 thousand average on tranquility.

If you call Sunday evening a peak time, then 50,000 is not a bad estimate for a Sunday, but during the week it's quite a bit less.

I logged on the Sunday just gone and there was over 47k accounts online, the week before it was just over 50k.

You know... you have an EvE subscription. You can play on the chinese server too if you want. It's not harder than connecting to sisi. I've done it and it's really boring. Space is sooooooo empty.

I am a bit sad that Serenity is but a copy of Tranquility. I would have liked a different universe with the same rules. It would require untold amounts of work, unfortunately. But if CCP can interface a console first person shooter with their main game, why cannot they at least conceptually keep both instances of this main game in the same game world?

5.8 billion overall? You do realize that the vast majority of that population outside of China is stricken with poverty and unable to afford internet/computer/spaceshipz, right? Population explosions are happening in the third world, not so much the first world...
