Quote:
Incarna is actually considered a prototype, the rendering engine that will ship with the MMO will be much more advanced.

Their site's readability is a bit terrible, but it's a bullet point from the news coming out about WoD from the Masquerade event in New Orleans. Well, we can all agree Eve is being taken advantage of by CCP for their other MMOs. I hope our Incarna prototype is getting iterated on to become a non-prototype

Yes that's the power of Carbon, all three games will benefit from each others developments, bug fixes, and improvements.

Look at the colours they're using on that site even the font wants to cut itself, it's that dark and "misunderstood".

It's kind of resource heavy in high res... annnd they haven't quite mastered putting 2 people in 1 room.

But, other than that it's everything that I hoped it would be and more.

That can be read two ways: WoD work is being taken advantage of to benefit Eve.

Eve had an avatar system somewhat developed. But it was dumped. It may have been dumped because CCP realized they needed a better one for WoD, and decided to dump the Eve one, and just have Eve borrow the WoD one to save resources.

Yup. A dev that shall remain nameless told me at fanfest that they had no idea how they'd put 10 characters in the same environment performance wise, let alone jita-like numbers.

Reading down that list of 'features' gives me the impression that CCP are seriously dumbing down their content, but should be expected given that it looks like a game for emo goths.

(The following is not totally serious, but is an exaggerated version of what Im thinking, try to read it in the jolly tone intended. Theres nuggets of truth burried within).

Did get a laugh at the "One world server, no shards/instancing." like thats any use in a bog standard, walk around, mmo. Should be funny to see the complaints of 'LAGGGGG' and 'my human char lagged into the face of a kindred' when more than 50 wrist slicers are in one area though.

Only one type of 'bad' (lol whos scared of goths?) character on release? Let me guess, the rest will be added when the game gets 'iterated on' like EVE yeah? Big smile

CCP, you need to get that game right, as the potential playerbase don't need much enthusiasm when it comes to taking razer blades to themselves, so wouldn't bother sending out emails asking them to come back. Bear in mind that anyone who takes an interest in anything remotely vampish or gothic is most likely going to be playing WOD between social worker visits and listening to very miserable grunge music. Big smile

I would be interested in knowing if you've ever played Bloodlines. Think it was right up there with Deus Ex (the original).

I'm actually working on a new play-through. It's a hell of a lot different in your late twenties!

I will also say this, I know a few fans of the WoD genre, one of them work for Air Force network security. So I guess not everyone fits that persona.

Edit, missread your post hehe.

You are correct, not everyone whos into vamps fits into the 'emo/wristslashing' persona, but its fun to play with it. Big smile

Wouldn't want to be a GM in WOD, every time you turn down a petition you'll be blamed for a life lost because you misunderstood another emogoth.

I don't mind CCP performing experiments on us (I have the CQ disabled so far).
But vampires? Geez...

Everything else on that list is far more interesting.

It should come as no surprise that an untested game engine will be tested the first time it's used. Any further enhancements will benefit EVE as well as WoD. They aren't just going to let the first iteration of carbon languish in EVE and only patch the version in WoD.

It's crap like this which makes CCP take weeks to proofread things. Afraid any little word will set off an avalanche of false assumptions.

They've never done that before, faction warfare is complete and polished to a Mr Sheen shine. Roll

Well, in all fairness, CCP need to be a little more proactive with how they release stuff and definately way more vigilant in regard to known bugs on test servers before releasing stuff. Any 'mickey taking' is a by-product of their own making imho, and its kinda fun to poke them about it, will keep them focused and not running after the next shiney red ball they see. Big smile

Can you direct me to the other game of theirs with a better version of faction war? If they're going to have a better version of carbon in WoD, it will be here too.

I agree entirely on that. My only point is that obviously the version of carbon we have now is a prototype, because it's the first version, and the updated version WoD eventually gets will also find its way here. Making this entire thread a non-issue.

The only things we should be worried about CCP neglecting are EVE exclusive things. Anything like the carbon engine, which will also be used in WoD, you can be sure is getting attention.
