Skill point ideas...

Have an idea for Skill Points, tied in with Loot Drops.

A friend of mine last year picked up the Commissioned Officer Edition of the game, and I love the in game implant introduced. I understand why the restrictions are so limited, and I think the reasoning behind them is sound.

However...is there something that can be added to the mix for older players/toons?

I think it would be great to have a WH loot drop which would drop a special booster, or implant which would give you a bonus to your skill training time. For instance, an ancient Jovian skill enhancer which would decrease the training modifier by one for a specific area of skills. Something that wouldn't destroy the SP system, but also put a carrot out their for younger toons, to increase their SP pools.

Brief example of what one might look like:

Jovian Armory Tech Booster
Reduces the Skill Training Time Multiplier for all Gunnery Skills by one tier, for 30 Days. (Basically, changing the multiplier down one level. i.e.: Changes a 10x to an 8x, 8x to a 6x, and on so on, with a 3x to a 2x being the last possible bonus. You would have the caveat that 2x could not be reduced.) NOTE: Can only be used 1x year.

Chance of Side Effect: 100%
Drawbacks: Armor/Shield/Velocity Drawback: 10%

Primary Skill Required: Biology V, Science IV

This would be a great benefit to players at the intermediary level, which could be used in lieu of or supplementary to a REMAP.

Like I said, this might be just enough of a carrot without nerfing the balance of how the SP system works. You could have a DUST 514 tie in, where maybe some of these specific items were only available planet side and would also throw a carrot out for the console side to interact with the market as well. (I'm sure there are plenty of other ideas as well.)

Separate idea, but similar subject: do you think it would nerf the game to much to allow toons less than 6 months old to train 1x Skills concurrently rather the consecutively? (Max of two skills concurrent) (No trial accounts of course.)

Why? "Because I want to train faster" is never a valid reason for anything pertaining to the SP system. Anything that can be useful for younger players is exploitable by older players (and their alts).

I'm not seeing any need for this in the game, the skill training system is probably the single thing that the most experienced players agree on as being pretty much perfect (though there are tons of people coming over from other MMOs that want to gain extra SP when they're playing or people who are just impatient). I'm seeing no reason at all to change the system; "If it ain't broke, don't 'fix' it".

And to the parallel training thing, no, it's not going to happen. Any temporary boost to younger char's training times will end up being the source of contention; soon it would be "Why can't I train two 1x skills at the same time for 12 months instead?" or "Why only two at a time, I should be able to train 5", ad nausem. Besides, the game's structure is set up for training one skill at a time, it would be painful to restructure it to allow multiple skills at once. Their current system (with a booster for younger chars to allow faster training) is a nice compromise of allowing younger players to get a running start without coddling them about the realities of needing to choose between skills to train. Besides, the main people that would use this feature would be people training up alts to use/sell anyways. So, no, no parallel training.

While the rest of the post is great too ... this about sums up the reasons for "no".

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

While not as terrible as the many "SP as reward for missions" proposals, I still don't like it. Either the implant/booster thing is rare and therefore expensive - then you achieve the exactly opposite effect. Only the already rich people and characters who never undock will be able to use it, and therefore gain a significant advantage over newer players. Or it will be relatively common, and therefore mandatory to use in order to keep up with the majority of other players. In other words, another pointless expenditure for a new player every time they get podded.

I'd call Malcanis's law on this.

Only skimmed this but how is it fair to older players who had to be patient to aquire their skills to then see newer ones get the same skills more quickly.

New players should feel lucky the way the game is now, those in the community that have been playing for a little while had to do leadership skills just to be able to learn skills at the same speed as older players. Going back further you had to have the 5 attribute skills to 5 just to be able to start doing the advanced skill and get reasonable attributes, spend a little while thinking how long with far inferior skills it took to learn 5 basic skills to 5 and the advanced one to like 4, and be grateful that you have the same speed of learning as everyone else already, trust me it took far longer and more effort to get (useful) skill points then, and meant at the start for alot of the older community we could learn stuff incredibly slowly or spend the first 6 weeks doing learning skills and being completely useless during that time.

The only booster like thing that I see being able to effect skill training would be to give a single attribute point or two at the most for a day with some rather nasty side effects which essentially make the game unplayable for you for the duration. Examples include: you can't warp, -50% to all resists making negatives possible, cargo space is halved, -50% to weapon tracking optimal range and damage, everyone has kill rights on you. You get the idea. As much as I would want to accelerate skill training it must be severely limited like this.

The one reason I really liked Eve's skill que is that I never had to hear about this ever again
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=poopsock

I like eve because I can be decent at the game and also have a social life (and a real job). Don't reward grinding with SP.

I honestly think PoCo based sov is a good idea https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1417544

Why take one of the most balanced and fair skill point/exp systems in the whole MMO arena and break it????

Simply because the OP wants to skill up quicker.

NO!

All very valid points. Thank you all for the input, I appreciate, and value all opinions stated.

One item that was touched on was being able to have a real life, because of the stability of the SP system, and I suppose this is what rang true for me as well.
