Another Local replacement Idea

How about this.

Start by changing the local to the following:-

0.0 gets changed to be the same as WH space local
01. - 0.4 = Local shows you how many people are in the system but no names unless they talk
0.5 - 1.0 = same as now.

THEN

you add in anchorable structure, like a warp bubble but with a limited life span, that you can place near a gate. This will then feed you (the anchorer) with information on what goes though the gate. This would be skill based so:-

lvl1 - "Hey dude I think x ships possibly did something around this gate...not sure though"
lvl2 - "Yep something deffo jumped in, didn't see what it was though"
lvl3 - ...
lvl4 - ....
lvl5 - "Yep, I saw 3 HAC's jump in flying the {insert random foe here} flag" << (eg where we are now with local + dscan

As an ' invader' you are going to see the anchored structure and can choose to pass on though, go a hunting or shoot the 'EWS Probe' down just to underscore your intentions.

I was thinking that the limited life time, anchoring time and vulnerability of the early warning probes would make this a more engaging things that just watching a scanner or local chat. You would not be firing these things off just as part of jumping though a gate! You would be placing them at gates as you setup your camp (mining or PewPew type) and then once you are done doing whatever it was OR your probes life time runs out you have to act to retrieve that probe or loose it.

This could lead to cool tactics like waiting cloaked for the probe timer to expire and jumping your fleet in while it's on the spin up cycle totally unseen, with no local if you get into the system avoiding the probe you are a ghost in the system :-)

think covert cyno, jump bridge, wormhole or a gate that the 'defenders' had not got a probe up on yet.

This could also lend it's self to having an iHub upgrade for sov holders that offers some level of this functionality to their people in that particular system thus giving a value to holding a system to full sov but also making the black ops REALLY cool!

Anyway, I feel that something like this would offer the intel to those that work for it but not for free to all. There could be lots of tweaks to the idea, for example a minimum mass for detection or lock breaker bombs confusing the probes to get a fleet though etc etc.

p.s. - This was cross posted from a random thread elsewhere, but this is the right place for ideas :-)

How about adding an IHub "Communications" upgrade which at:
- Strategic Sov Level 1: Activated the "normal" local as we know it now
- Strategic Sov Level 3: Allows members of the holding alliance to see local
- Strategic Sov Level 5: Allows all members with good standings to the holding alliance to see local

In all other case there would be wormhole space rules

Because holding space and paying the upkeep should still be rewarded

Would make life in WHs a lot more easier. You scan the door, dump one of those near it and go on to do whatever you want to do. You would be able to warp back to safety if someone comes in.

Right now, you always need someone to watch the door if you do a somewhat big op like doing combat sites or mining grav sites.

What about simply making Low and Zero sec have local to be constilation wide?

I don't hang around too much in Low or Zero so not sure how this would affect the structure of things there.... but it would mean that AFK Cloaks have no purpose, iIntel would have to be a manual thing, you sould need to be on the ball and check around you more.

But you wouldnt loose the 'chat' avaliability of an MMO.

Please shoot me down if this is a sucky idea and feel free to blast big holes in it.
