11 Canes, two ruptures, 4 rifters, and a broadsword spotted a lone damnation.

We engage, his shields burn off then he literally stops taking damage. A moment later local spikes he is down to half armor. Hostiles on grid:

10 Munin, 5 Loki, 6 canes and 4 light dictors.

End result:
We lost 11 Cane, 2 ruppy, 2 rifters, and a broadsword.

We killed 2 light dictors and a loki.

It was a wash on ISK, but WTF is with the tank on the damnation?

In a word (or four): it's pretty good.

Damnation is sort of similar to the Proteus in terms of the GIGANTIC brick armor buffer it can fit.

Command ships tend to be used in some very large fleet engagements and as such CCP decided to endow them with some pretty hefty tanks to allow them to survive on capital strewn battle fields long enough to be useful. The last time I checked, the standard Damnation fit with its own links and a minimal amount of pimp can reach 480K EHP. I used to know one Damnation pilot who used to fit his in a manner that allowed it to tank a Titan DD back when they could hit sub caps. Funniest thing I have ever seen.

Because of this, and the fact that command ships almost always have a cyno fit (extra highs not really used for much else besides smart bombs for clearing drones of guards) it is safe to assume that any Damnation you find on its own has a fairly large fleet backing it up. Damnation bait is the most obvious bait in the game, and I am kind of surprised that people still seem to fall for it.

So you primaried a ship that's known to usually fit a tank that will stop you like a steel wall and you were surprised when his larger gang of mostly T2/3 ships came and owned your fleet of T1 ships and a HIC. Cool story bro.

This.

I'm not sure how you lost so many ships to this. As soon as local spikes like that you gtfo, and I doubt the Damnation had more than one point fitted...

Anyway, unlucky but kudos for going for it anyway Twisted

Not it you get over-confident and hasty and activate your HIC's (or DIC's, no pun intended) bubble for no apparent reason, tackling your whole fleet around a single ship...

Ah yes, didn't consider that.

T2 fitted a damnation can easily get 350k EHP and almost double that with slave implants. Also if you use active hardeners and overheats them the derp tank on it is only beaten by a proteus amongst subcaps.
