So Moon Mining isn't real mining? no ship required? I've only been here almost a year, and mainly high sec...so not up to speed on everything here.

But is Moon mining just another form of PI?

Actually moon mining was here first so PI is just another form of moon mining Bear

So I take it they are non-gank-able/non kill-able?

Yep. Take the PI system:
Extractor > Processor > Storage > Processor > Storage > Market (or whatever)

Spread it out over a bunch of POSes, and you've got moon mining.

FYI: It is not a solo activity, and cannot be done in .4 or higher security.

They're pretty gankable all right. Just requires bigger guns.

They can be destroyed, but this isn't anywhere near as quick as ganking a hulk.

hmm....in a way, I find that kinda silly, like PI. If I have to play aligning every 2 mins, while I dump ore to orca (max mining means dumping every cycle) while hitting D-Scan, and people get to set up "Mining" that is total afk, I find that it does annoy me somewhat. (I do not like the PI system, but see that there might be some hope with Dust, not that I think it will actually fix that)

(edit) That also clears up where I've read one Goonwaffe state (I think it was Laddy Harlot at the time) caught anyone from his corp mining he would gank them himself, and another Goonwaffe posters stateing (can't remember his name, sorry) that they mine 61+ moons.

Does that mean Moon Mining isn't actual mining? (again with the noobish question)

- Anchor and online POS
- Online moon miners
- Connect to silos
- Unload silos and fuel POS regularly
- Defend with a supercap fleet as needed

Simplified, but that's pretty much it...

be sure to select evaporite deposits instead of technetium, technetium is worthless

Yes. CCP realised that asteroid mining is completely pointless and have vowed never to make the same mistake again. So every form of resource gathering introduced since then has been automated passive resource gathering with the player's role being focused on setup, transport and management, which does make far more sense.

But don't worry, miners, I still totally respect your play-style of doing a mindless repetitive task that is better accomplished by bots.

I do personally consider ratting to be a form of mining.

Hmm. Gate camp much? that's a lot of sitting around not even mining or anything useful right there. Null sec makes mining veldspar look like NASCAR these days. Not that I like NASCAR, but you get my point.

Fair enough. All the PvE crap CCP adds get's boring after half a dozen runs.

Me too. I also see blobbing as killmail farming so I gets it's all just Farmville in space.
