EVE Suggestion - AFK Indicator

Hi there.

Could CCP implement some sort of "AFK indicator" into EVE? This could take the form of a yellow circle next to the persons name if they hadn't clicked on anything in EVE for say 5 minutes. It would need to be only visible in corp chat, and not in local.

I know it annoys corp members when others don't respond in chat, and I think it would be a good way to help everyone know why they aren't responding. If the yellow circles not there then they are ignoring you!

Uh huh nice try, not going to happen.

Troll GD they take the bait.

MMOs come and go, but Eve remains.  -Garresh-

Eve already gives you too much free information

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Sometimes when I post, I look at my sig and wish that I'd follow my own god damned advice.

I used to think it was a good idea but someone pointed out that it's too easy to exploit, you put up your AFK indicator in corp chat and someone looking to gank corp mates, or a corp spy passes on that information to another corp who comes along and ganks you if you're in space or pulls some other stunt like camping your station if you're docked.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

such kind of indicator would be an afk cloaker nerf and local boost.
this is exactly the opposite of whats required.

I guess people don't read the OP, only the subject. Because of the above statement, I support this.

Yes, the idea is simply to stop corp mates getting frustrated with other corp mates.

Well, to make it a little less frustrating at least Smile

In that case a self selected AFK flag seen only by corp mates would be the answer, not one that that automatically broadcasts to everyone whether you're afk or not ...which i see was not what you suggested, but trust me some idiots will.

As someone who has gone off to class/gone to bed with Eve running a few times by accident (after alt+tabbing and such), I would fully support the ability to display the fact that you're AFK. I would propose that the window be adjustable and you be able to enable/disable it in various channels (since some people hang out in channels other than "Corp"), but I like the sound of the idea.

Seriously.

This is a good idea. It would allow me to know right off the bat if my boss is off taking care of his kid.

Is this the right place to make the suggestion or is there an e-mail address I should send it to?

As I said before, people tend to only read the title of the thread and maybe the first sentence or two. He obviously missed the part where you said:

It's best just to ignore the replies from people who obviously don't read the entire post.

EDIT: Also, bump for a good idea.
