I’m new and I have a couple of stupid questions:

Is there anything in the game that is unknown or unexplored? What I mean is, has every item or blueprint been found? Has every combination of items been found? Has every solar system been explored?

To some extent yes and there are guides on how to get to pretty much all of it.

The possible exception is wormhole space, but it's likely that all of WH space has been visited at some point already since it's introduction in 2009

There are a few areas that have limited guides/public knowledge. There was an exploration site near New Eden that was added with the latest patch, but of more significant note is 0.0 Cosmos Missions. These have been around for years and yet very few people seem to know about them.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'll try the Cosmos missions as soon as I get some more of my core skills developed. I knocked out the SOE Epic Arc this weekend and now I'm trying to figure out, "what next?" lol

Hi Rat Farmer,

Exploration is a good ingame feature, more information can be found here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Exploration_guide

As with COSMOS missions, i have been playing on/off for 6 years and it was only a year ago when i first tried it for the first time and enjoyed it alot. To give you an idea of where to find COSMOS agents, visit the EVElopedia page: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/COSMOS

Thanks for the info Alassien. Is there a downside to doing the COSMOS missions early on? I've heard that the SOE Epic is repeatable, is this the same for the COSMOS missions?

Downside for doing COSMOS = some of the missions require a very high standing before the agent will even talk to you, typically 0.0 to 2.0 for the first agents and 4.0 to 6.0 or even 9.0 for later agents. Some of the missions are just courier missions, however some are really really really hard, and cannot be completed without a, group or a battleship or a well tanked HAC. If you fail a COSMOS mission, its done, no second chances.

SOE Epic = all epic arcs are repeatable with restrictions, I think there is a time limit on the lvl 4s. If you complete a cosmos arc, its done, its not repeatable, same if you fail it.

Hope this helps :)

EDIT : If you like finding weird items, try the visible sites scattered across empire, exploration sites or wormholes. You'll soon find various rare-ish modules, hoard them greedily or sell them :).

About those visible sites, what ship types are necessary to do them?

I assumed that as they are readily accessible they must be intended for new players and therefore able to be done in a basic T1 frigate. I tried a couple and very nearly got my arse handed to me. Just managed to get out of the second with about 5% structure.

Assuming is one of the easiest ways to get yourself killed in EVE.

Most of the "static" sites are DED 1 or 2, therefore doable in a decent frigate or a destroyer. IIRC there is one or two DED 3 or 4, which could need a cruiser. All depends on your skills - both the ones you put in the skill queue, and the real skills in flying your ships.

If all else fails, google a walkthrough.

Yeah - and in RL!

The ship I nearly lost was a Kestrel with Eve-Uni's basic PvE fit and Bloodclaws.

Walkthroughs always seem a bit of a cop-out to me, but I get the impression that it's routine to use them in EVE.

I have to admit I feel the same way. You can learn either by following walkthroughs, or by trying it yourself and losing a ship occasionally when you get it wrong.

I prefer the latter. P

Is there a chance element to these sites?

I tried another one and had a bit more success, 'Serpentis Drug Outlet' I think it was called. Got through the first two rooms but couldn't find the key to the final gate. I killed everything in sight, including all the structures that looked destructible, but no key. In the end I gave up and went home.

I Googled it to see if I could learn anything and discovered the key should have dropped from the Overseer, but it didn't. I know I killed him because I had his personal effects in my hold. So where was the key?

There -are- chance elements...to whether or not you get an escalation or if a faction spawn occurs. The key, however, should always drop.

Petition it?

You can usually pick up keys on contracts pretty easily.
