You really have to wonder if they're just clueless or really actually trying so hard to do dumb stuff. No franchise they ever touched stayed on top.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Seriously?

EA?

I wept bitter tears the day they STOLE Command & Conquer.

I grind me teeth every time I have to deal with them ( and now, soon, Origin ) over me son's Battlefield account.

I'd rather an advanced case of testicular cancer than do any more business with that sodded lot.

Can't truly understand how they stay in business with such monumentally incompetent and abrasive support.

Someone said it true..........CCP may have many faults, some may even say a great many, but at the end of the day they can hold their head high with pride at *NOT* being EA Games.

I'd pass 'em by with a bladder full if they was a ragin inferno...............

If true, this is a smart move on EA's part. They've wisely noted that a significant factor in the reluctance of players to (permanently) switch from WoW is the fact that they must abandon years' worth of accumulated characters, achievements, wealth and items in the transition.

Of course, EA is terrible and no one should ever buy any of their games, let alone play an MMO developed/published by them. That doesn't mean that this "veteran transference" idea isn't a good one, however. In fact, in theory it's the best idea I've ever heard for competing with Blizzard... well, aside from making MMOs that are actually good, but no developer seems capable of that anymore.

After the first hour of playing command and conquer 4 i actually cried about how they ABSOLUTLEY RUINED THE GAME.

EA is the absolute worst example of a game developer in modern history. They are like apple except without the success and creativeness.

EA is the Nickleback of the game industry.

It's sort of a nice idea, assuming it's real, but not really. I think they saw that people from existing MMOs aren't likely to jump over, since they have invested so much in their current games. Naturally the correct solution from a marketing perspective is to offer value for that investment in a new MMO, right? Well not really. The problem is that you can't really transfer that investment and value and it can radically decrease their retention in the new game and even do harm to the game.

Take SWTOR as an example. There is no way to transfer the value of my investment in EVE to that game. It offers nothing comparable, nor does it even try to or plan to in the future. The only good thing about the game, based on general concensus compared to other MMOs on the current market, is the class stories in the leveling portion. So what do I get from their veteran offer? Can I skip the leveling portion? Maybe get instant max lvl PvP gear? What of value can they offer me that doesn't ruin the experience for me or be unfair to their normal subscribers? Either it's of no real value to me or it'll start a riot with their normal customers. Possibly both, since EA is in charge.

Ignoring that the real problems remain. If I wanted to play the game, I would play it regardless of their offer. If the game can't compete on gameplay and MMO mechanics, I'm not going to be subbing to it. It also has the unintended side affect, that getting unfair advantages because I used to play some totally different game is absurd and I wouldn't want to play any game that did that. It's a totally new level of whoring far below what CCP did with their microtransaction scheme and I wouldn't touch such a nasty and diseased prostitute even with a ten foot pole.

I see Electronic Assholes are now trying to screw over newcomers to the industry with their stupid ideas and irrational logic.

Hello, Gabriel Mangeiri!
On our "multi-sharded multi-server world" probably no one will find you, currently hidden on Nourvukaiken VII - Moon 18 - Ytiri Storage station in the Nourvukaiken system. And for sure one never bring suicide Tornado just to pop your capsule and prove that your point of view is totally wrong.

semantics, EVE is a single game world (for all intents and purposes a single server game) even if its run on a cluster

as opposed to other games where the community is sharded on separate and unlinked server clusters.

No there are not many games like eve, save for wwiionline which also maintains a single game world spread across a server cluster.

but your assessment is technically correct, however your amusement is in error

I have a love-hate relationship with CCP, as much as I can violently disagree with some of their decisions, they are also the developer that shines brighter and brighter on a sky where more and more developers get swallowed up by giant publishers.

And for that, I love them.

Thats like saying because I live in the EU I'm not on the same planet as you. Which need less to say is WRONG! I may be on a different continent but I'm still on the same dam planet as you! So i could fly swim or walk to come and slap you in the face!

I really don't know what you're trying to get at, but in all reality the EvE hardware system is indeed made up of multiple servers of hardware...

But you still log onto a single shard, Tranquility, which was the whole point. Gabriel proved to be unable to connect the dots which kenxi pointed out to him with a RL analogy.

yeah, they have a fair number of discreet hardware boxes serving up TQ.

However, in general terms we're all on the same server.

SWTOR/WOW/ETC --

"oh hey, you play [game] too?"
"yeah ... run with a pretty good crew, we're lookin for new people, what say you?"
"sounds great! I'm on (server)"
"oh ... right ... well we're on (other server) ... though you could start a new toon and grind it to L80 to run with us..."
"...ugh ..."

EVE
"Oh, you play Eve too!?"
"yeah, run with a great alliance in Catch. Heard one of the corps was recruiting ... chat to {person} and tell them I sent you."
"sweet!"

EA used to be great back in the day (read: late 80's). That was honestly when I quit paying attention to them, other than to note which games not to buy . . .

I'm much more interested in what Bungie + Activision are doing with "Destiny"
