Purchase problem

I accidentally purchased ammo that is in a .4 system. It is about 3 million worth of ammo. What would be my safest way of retreiving it? I have a Cov-op Helios I could go in and get it but after docking how do I get away when I undock and head back? It seems someone is always waiting once I undock. Is there a way I can cloak as I undock and head to a gate out of low sec?

Your best bet is to make an "instant undock" while cloaked

It's a BM that's about 200 km out in the direction you undock from. When you undock you'll already be aligned to it and at full speed allowing you to warp instantly.

Keep in mind you can't cloak just after undocking as you are too close to the station

The other problem with making the Insta is ... if they're camping the station - they'll just blow you up. So you've got to try and get that done while no one's around to blow you up - unless of course you can just kill them. Try just after down time or be patient and wait until there's no one in local.

Practice doing that first in Hi Sec as it takes some technique. I've found turning on the tactical display helps, WMDing out a good ways and then flying back in towards the line coming down from the station and putting my bookmark (or saved location now ...) there.

I'm not sure making the Insta for just one trip would be worth it though. If you were clear enough to make the insta than you'd be clear enough to just warp out of there with your goods.

When you warp to the station - don't warp all the way in - warp in to a distance where you can see if there's anyone there - then warp to the station, grab your stuff and get out quick. If you've got a Covert Ops ship you should be fine.

The truth is though that you're best bet may be to just sell the ammo where it's at. Place it up for bid at just below what you paid for it. Look in your Assets tool for the item, right click on it and sell it. You'll have to have the skills to do that but it can be done without you having to fly out to that station.

I never have any problems getting things out of lowsec, I bought a lot of stuff there, sometimes coincidently.

As lowsec has gate guns, pirates are dependent on cruisers and bigger ships to camp gates and stations. They can't lock nearly as fast as frigates, even with sebo's. Which means you're quite safe as long as you're piloting frigates or destroyers, especially with nano's to align even faster.

Not sure what ammo you've bought but a dessy with a cargohold expansion or two can get you up to 1,000m3.

This is a good alternative for bigger ships.

can you not jump in and out straight after server downtime, in the hope you get in and out before they log on?

This thread is funny.

It's not that hard at all just go for it.

If you happen to have someone camping the station all the time and really can't get to it: Sell it at that station and go buy it somewhere else.

Hi Zornia,

I think there are some good responses to your question, I think a couple that may be viable are:

  • Wait until server goes back up after downtime (if you are working during time, a weekend after downtime may be best)
  • Take the risk, to be honest unless the .4 system is a main hub for pirates, you shouldnt have much problems just jumping in and out - dont forget to fit stabs adn keep an eye on local. You could go to the system prior to collecting, cloak and bookmark safespots.
  • Pay someone else to deliver the items for you
  • Sell ammo at just below the cost you paid for

And good luck on whichever option you choose :)

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I ended up taking the "just do it" approach with a cheapo frigate with no mods. This time I guess I timed it right or got lucky and no one felt like clobbering me for no reason. When I got to the station they were 5 pilots docked there. I picked up my ammo and just left. No hassles at all. Guess I made a moutain out of a molehill this time!Smile

Lowsec isn't all pirates and ship explosions, after all. Most of the time, the other people in the system/station are there waiting for you to leave, anyway.

The best advice i can give you is, just fly down there and get your ammo.
The sooner you get loose of that lowsec fear, the better it is for your eve experience.

And even if you get blown up with the ammo, it was just 3 mil...
