Why do you dislike the new item names?

I am very surprised to see the huge influx of hate on the new item names. I personally think it's a long overdue and very necessary change that will hopefully spread to almost every item category in EVE eventually. While not everything is in dire need of change (Blaster naming conventions are pretty decent, for example, as are Railguns, ACs and Arties) some are absolutely senseless and mind-boggling at best - Lasers, anyone?

So tell me, what don't you like about the new names? What did you like about the old names?

Many will say " we play EVE not WOW we don't want such symplifiing"

I just don't see a point for such change

There is a bit of a risk in assigning names so arbitrarily, not that they chose particularly bad names for the prop mods, but it shows the collision in mentality people have and that we take for granted.

Where it's especially dangerous is giving linearly descriptive values when something can't be linearly quantified. It's bad enough to say T2 is "best" because obviously it's not, or isn't always, and the Y-T8 MWD was a good example of how specific names are better for specific qualities.

When you're dealing with multiple variables that don't all go in the same direction (more gooder) you can't say anymore what's best, what's worth the most, and rarely can you say what's the most useful. This is something that needs to be kept in mind. The missiles is sort of a cosmetic and convenience thing, I'm indifferent about the change because the important specific bits are still there.

Even lasers are safer to put in some kind of order because the values follow almost a perfect curve and there could even be some benefit in ordering crystal types. Railguns and blasters, though, each size trades things off a little differently and their current order by caliber is misleading. I could even argue that it would be more beneficial to chop up blasters and rails like the lasers are now and instead order lasers by their size since the values that are exchanged are in proportion to each other.

They need to change the name of armor repairers to health regenerators TBH.

I have more space likes than you.

While I didn't use missiles a lot, I knew the "basics" about them... and it was easy enough to get what people needed fi I was running to Jita or something

e.g. -- get us 100k Widomaker Rage. OK, get there, search for "Widowmaker", get the missiles.

now you can't say that -- it has to be MUCH more specific, since the name crosses many missile types. (rocket, missile, heavy missile, assault missile, torpedo, etc).

e.g. -- "get us 100k Mjolnir." OK, um ... what kind? "I dunno, whatever goes in a drake." WTF does a drake use? "well, depends on if you want to engage at long range or not" Ugh, I don't know ... [corpie] was the one asking for them. "Oh, get him the Mjolnir (whatever size)". Thanks ... this was so much easier with different names.

the same name made sense with the other ammos because it was all "Antimatter" or "Phased Plasma" or "Multifrequency" -- you just appended a size, and were good to go.

e.g. -- "get me 100k large antimatter." OK, will do.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Obviously the solution here is just to make one type of ammunition that works for every weapon. Problem solved!

Before renaming I would open market, search for "Scourge"

After renaming I open market, search for "Trauma Heavy"

At least missile users are still slightly better off than turret users who have to look for "antimatter charge m"

My main complaint is the lack of novelty.

Every change has a cost, even just the hating of the playerbase is a cost already.

They should just have done a little bolder step and do this:

1) Keep old names
2) Add aliases to 1) with new names. Here you go, everyone is happy!

3) Add tags to names so we can search them with something intuitive like "laser medium" or "MWD cruiser".

That's it! It's not surprise Google got their popularity.

They refined their design to make it simple yet very useful, they did not just dumb down.

I don't dislike them. But I told myself this morning that I was going to post in every stupid thread about them.

So, here I am...posting.

To me at least it's an issue mainly because I see no real advantage to them being changed, but when I patched and logged, I felt like I had just started Eve again. So they aren't really a terrible system, just an unneccessary one.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

I wouldnt mind if they at least put in the flavor fluff text something like "also known as the Lif Fule Boosted..." etc at least.

I don't really dislike them, not enough to post loads of whinage threads anyway. The new names do seem dumbed down though, I cannot imagine the level of stupidity and ignorance needed to mix the old names up or be unable to click "show info" and read the description.

I am far from the sharpest knife in the box but to be that dumb must really be something, how does somebody go through life like that? Things like putting shoes on the right feet must be difficult, the world must be a confusing place for such people.

Or you could add item to 'Quickbar' and not have to type anything at all Straight?

Some of us are just too old school....'Kentucky Fried Chicken' old school... we don't want no 'Kitchen Fresh Chicken'. If we resist we can get back our 'Kentucky Fried Chicken!'

My only issue with it is I knew most things by name... now I have to look 3 or 4 times before realizing that I'm staring at the right missile.

Why was it done in the first place anyways?

If you're gonna rename missiles, at least rename it like Kinetic Rage Torpedo, Heat Precision Missile, etc

Save me the time of having to figure out what the hell is suppose to be the new name...

You people are strange.

CCP can make sov changes that wipe out years of work,
Allow someone to obliterate a ship you tooks years to make
but you cling to a missle name like a childhood blanket.

Can't figure some of you out for the life of me. Could be you are just tired of the game but your addiction won't allow you to let go of it too.

Point the first --> Any of us can also do that (see: BoB getting disbanded by the Goons, or any of the other territory wars over the years). It's not exactly the same as CCP resetting everything, but it does wipe out peoples' work.

Point the second --> I've yet to find a ship that takes "years" to make. Maybe a few weeks to a month (depending on where you're starting in the production cycle).

From what I've seen, the only change I don't like is with the missiles. It just rubs me the wrong way. I might have actually been happier with just naming them all "kinetic rockets" or "thermal torpedoes". "Trauma Heavy" seems a little silly.

If I had been in charge of the missile change, I would have instead given each damage type a theme name (probably related to the damage type itself). Unlike many other item types, missile and other ammo icons distinguish by size as well as by type.

Here, I'll try to come up with the kinetic line:

Thorn Rocket
Dart Standard
Arrow Heavy
Bolt HAM
Javelin Cruise
Spear Torpedo
Lance Capital Cruise
Impaler Capital Torpedo
