Old Neocom Option

Give players an option just like with captain's quarters that allows us to turn it off and go back to the standard Neocom.

Much like with CQ, I don't like it and serves no actual purpose other than making it prettier than the old neocom.

However, for people like me, it feels a bit sloppy and unorganized.

I would rather CCP just take the old neocom and make it look a little prettier, but leave the overall functionality of it alone.

Again though, this probably won't happen, so just give me the option to turn off the new neocom in exchange for having the old neocom back... Just like bringing back station spinning, which was the greatest descision since...well....station spinning.

Yes, please! I was just coming on the forums to ***** about this. I log on to change my skills and then I get this update to the Neocom which personally sucks ass imho. I don't like it and I want the option to have the old look. I know you can scale it but it's either too small, or too big and you don't get to see the actual tab names without mousing over it... Please CCP, give us the option to switch back to the old or you will lose players, starting with me!

I support this. The new neocom was forced on us like entering captain's quarters, but it can't be disabled. I for one liked it the way it always was,and while the option to rearrange and resize and so on is nice,it should be just that,an option.

There isn't really much difference between the two, anything you had on the neocom before you can have it on it now, and anything that gets minimized, goes to the neocom. Except now it is much more sleek looking, and soon you will beable to have it on the top and bottom of your screen.

I'm okay with the new one. Pretty easy to use, and I like how some things are sub-categorized.

This is why I specified to have an option to turn off the Neocom.

That way the people that like the new Neocom can keep it and the ones that don't can turn it off.

Simple fix and everyone is happy

My point is there is no point in wasting resources by making it possible to switch back n forth between new and old, when the new one is perfectly fine the way it is.

My point is that there are many people who dont' agree with you on that fact, but this is one of those things that CCP can do something about without messing the game up, so everyone is happy.

You're trying to stop a suggestion that changes nothing for you, only for those of us who wish for it to change...

Agree. I posted in another thread here on how CCP can improve the new Neocom as well. It has multiple issues as is. For example, even tho I'd love to be able to customize my UI as much as possible, this new Neocon forces alot of crap on us even if we turn it off. I can turn off fleet, etc, so it won't show on the left. But soon as I join a fleet - boom, it pops up and clutter up the interface. Open a cargo? Open cargo + corp hangar + loot can + station containers etc? They ALL show up on the Neocom. And you can't remove them, without closing the cans.. or the fleet.. etc.

So yah, OP is right, and you're wrong muhadin. The new Neocom does not do the same things as the old, in fact it adds alot of unecessary **** that clutters everything up. When it stops adding alot of unecessary crap, and when it's really customizeable and not forcing stuff on you, then I'd be more likely to agree with you. But for now, the OP has a valid point.

The new NeoCom reminds me much of the Windows 7 taskbar, though it's lacking the option to stick the "application" of a currently open window to it. Like, if you've opened the notepad from the "Start" menu (yes, I'm using that comparison intentionally!) because it's missing in the NeoCom bar it should be possible to right-click on the icon and have a menu entry like "stick to NeoCom bar" available.

Really, if you're accustomed to how Windows 7 handles windows and applications this shouldn't be that much of a problem to manage the new NeoCom.

What, still using Windows XP? Time to upgrade.

(As a side note, it looks eerily similar to Ubuntu's Unity desktop as well. Though to my relief it didn't copy Unity's epic fail of how to access different applications.)

The first devblog, month ago, was, that you are able to switch between the old esteblished and the new 'Beta' Version of the NeoCom in the ESC-menue. Unfortunately this was not so handled now. Sad

It‘s still in BETA

I am also absolut disappointed about this proceeding. Because:

- The new neocom is new but absolute NOT better. Far from it!
- Groups can not be renamed? Why? Forgotten? In a customizable Neocom?
- The names of the buttons are missing. Missing! In a customizable Neocom?
- Too small charpic
- The useless Chaticon cant be removed. In a customizable Neocom? (only removeable with a unusually trick)
- Icons for items and ship hangar are fixed on a maximal inappropriate position. In a customizable Neocom?

Why do CCP call this mess customizable, when nearly nothing is customizable? I am not able to "customize" the look and functionality like the old, known and loved neocom. Why?

As a customizeable NeoCom I would like to re arrange the new one EXACT the same look, as it was before. Because you can not use this mess of blinky little buttons without names.

Before these chages, CCP should not be allowed to call this thing: Customizable NeoCom. Blink

Unfortunately I posted my complaints in the Macintosh thread, but it looks like you Windows users aren't happy with it, either.

Actually, I'm mostly satisfied, except for the stupid, slow, animated way that the main Neocom menu loads. Crap doesn't have to fade in and off my screen. Just draw the menu, for crying out loud!

I can (and do) turn off all of the eye-candy in Windows, but it looks like I'm forced to be stuck with it in Eve?

Okay, enough whining. There's a very good reason for not gradually drawing the menu. Start by browsing the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsiveness article.

Just out of curiosity what resources would be wasted?

I prefered the old neocom, I didn't need to set it up for each character, it didn't flash at me, it didn't steal my minimised tabs. If the new one's better for you, great, but don't inflict it upon the rest of us.

Well I suppose for me was just a matter of getting used to new one. Still an option to turn off the new one and have the old one back would be nice.

After playing with it more last night, here are the issues I have with it.

1) I don't like that I can see through it. I like the old opaque one. It is entirely too transparent making it a bit difficult to even see the icons, let alone make out blinking and minimized windows which are mentioned further down.

2) I HATE that there is a link for the chat windows.... not only do I have the tabs blinking which annoys me cause I feel like I have to constantly check them, but now I have the icon blinking as well...

3) When the icons on the neocom are blinking they're so faint that I can't distinctly tell that they're blinking, so i'm constantly clicking on icons that I think are blinking that really aren't

4) When you minimize something now, it drops it to the neocom instead of the bottom of the screen. This wouldn't be so bad, but the problem is, like with the blinking Icons, it's so faint that you can't tell if you have that icon minimized, or if you closed it.

5) I'm pretty sure that the skill training bar is f'd up. When in your skill training menu, if you have a skill that takes longer than 24hrs, the bar at the top is solid blue. however, the neocom bar won't show that it's completely full.. So what measurement of time is it using???

6) When docked I have it selected to merge my ships and items with the station service panel... So why the hell do I have items and ships icons on my neocom??

7) Minimizing containers drops them on the neocom... This gets to be pretty annoying with several containers.

8) Instead of having some icons and then one icon with a sub folder which contains the calculator, notepad, logs, and whatever else, now I have an icon that shows a sub folder, and then more icons that show other sub folders....

9) While it's great that you can drag and drop icons onto your neocom, why the hell do I need to??? It was all there perfectly laid out with the old Neocom...

10) WTF is the point in a customizable neocom when all you're going to do is try to get it as close to the old neocom as possible? Wtf is the point of a customizable neocom when nothing on the neocom is different from what used to be on the neocom?? WTF is the point of customization when the only thing customizable about it is button locations??? This is the most limited customizable item I've ever seen.... You have a better selection for character customization in the NeX store than you have customization for the neocom, and anyone who's been to the NeX store knows that it is quite limited...

To me, there are two things good about it.

1) I can rearrange my icons (only true customizable part, you just gotta find the icons first)

2) It shows your training bar and it can be clicked to open straight to your training que(this is pretty awesome, even though I have no idea what measurement of time that bar is trying to show me.) Is it time left for that skill? Is it supposed to be a 24hr bar like in the skill que, or is it messed up?? IDK.

If it was customisable as it's meant to be, this wouldn't be an issue. But as always CCP shoot themselves in the foot and give us some half baked hash job. I thought they had learnt from the past and moved on from this.
