There's also the fact that Amarr and Gallente are the two "drone" factions (with equivalent Amarr ships having a larger drone hold but Gallente having larger drone bandwidth).

The Dragoon (the Amarr equivalent to the Algos) is 6/2/4 (with messed up turret/launcher setups in the high) with 75m3 capacity and 25m3 bandwidth.

The Algos is 6/3/3 with 60m3 capacity and 35m3 bandwidth.

I personally think changing the Algos to 6/2/4 would be a downgrade. I like where it's at now.

the Algos is a destroyer. they are supposed to have low defenses as drawback for pulling high damage against frigates. now, the gallentean droneboats usually have a dual combat role. they dont depend solely on drones for damage and usually have some bonus for their other weapon system.

that, and that gallente as a whole has this style of evenly matched mids and lows which allows them to build shield or armor depending on the pilot's flavor.

amarr droneboats are mainly an EWar platform. they have less weapon hardpoints in order to make space for energy or tracking disruption while depending solely on droneboats for damage. to compensate they can use any other weapon platform but without any combat bonus on it.

since amarr is mostly about heavy plated armor their ships tend to be the most lowslot intensive in the game. and on top of that, their droneboats dont get the same amount of bandwidth compared to Gallente. this is supposedly compensated by having a bit more of space on the bay. but still, more drones on field > more drone storage.

also, the dragoon gets a 4th low at the cost of pitiful 2 midslot layout. which means no web+scram unless you take out prop mod.

the Algos is fine. now. the Dragoon on the other hand.

Nerf the Algos, it has too many low slots. Corax, its missile equivalent, only has 2 low slots. Remove a low slot from the Algos.

There is a difference there, Algos is a droneboat, not missile boat! Plus, that's why Caldari ships are junk.

In that case, maybe we should try to level the field and make drones shoot missiles too.

Remove standings and insurance.

Put my personal opinion in place, even though Algos is a destroyer class ship, I think, it doesn't require 6 high slots. My decision would be to remove one in order to gain a low slot.

The dragoon highs are fine imo, 3-6 neuts/nos, and if you really want 3 guns or launchers. Its the 2 mid slots that is hard to deal with. There are 4 mods you would really want in those slots, but you can only chose two of prop, scram, web, or cap injector

and anyways destroyers get rather strong bonuses, however they are rather slot limited. I think that is a very intended built in drawback.

IMO moving the Algos from 6-3-3 to 6-2-4 would be a bad idea..

OP was thinking about 5-3-4, with 5 guns hard points, IMHO.

Re-reading the OP's post I can't confirm that. I would however make the precautionary note that the Algos is already a strong ship with 6-3-3. Making it 5-3-4 could make it too powerful. Though, more commonly I find the ship suffers from a the lack of CPU. Many of my Algos fits commonly feature downsized guns and a Processor Overclocking Unit. Sometimes also Current Routers as well.

The idea of it having very strong armour tanking goes somewhat against the stated function of this ship.

The Algos, as is custom with the Gallente, relies on swiftness of action - preferably at a respectable distance - to accomplish its goals. In this it reflects well-honed Gallente values, which include taking independent action without taking forever to wait for a committee decision,

Of all the ships in game none of the descriptive statements is more true than the Algos. It's supposed to be light, fast, hard hitting, and long ranged. The Algos pilot is supposed to be faced with the dilema of choosing between good tank and good DPS - and 3 lowslots kinda goes with that.
