So the new Eve forums are active and these forums will soon be closed. As such, it's time to say farewell. As it is in life, all good things must come to an end, even if we don't want it to end.

For years these forums have provided us with a place to seek and share knowledge as well as provide entertainment, joy and sorrow. Not to mention create tension, strife and rage.

These forums have also seen a lot of players come and go, some helpful and some not so much. We were all part of a great community and despite our differences, the one thing we all had in common was that we all played, loved and hated the same game, Eve Online.

I salute each and every one of you and I sincerely hope to see you all in the new forums doing what you do best, being an active member of the Eve Online Community.

Comparing to current forums the new ones are total mess. Hardly readable chaos structure, sticky posts drowning at bottom of the page and tons of superfluous details. Yes, I will be missing the "old" forums...

And as with virtually anything CCP touches these days, the "new hotness" is merely a "hot mess".

Time to say good bye then. I won't move over to the new forums. Too much of a mess. Hopefully I'll be able to play more again next year. So maybe see you ingame next year.

I rather like the new forums. they take some geeting used to but it has some features that players have been begging for for years. Plus now we have some tools we needed to moderate the forums. Like merging threads.

What, precisely, have players been begging for for years?

Emojii's?
A completely unnavigable interface?
Huge amounts of wasted space?

Please specify the list of "features" the player base has been crying out for.

Don't use the new ones.

They will wise up an reopen the old ones when 90% of their monthly traffic stops showing up because of how disastrous the new forums are. The lay out is worse than Reddit.
Only site that's worse is 4chan and that's not something to be proud of.

**** the new forums.

Theres literally not a single thing added to the new forums I or anyone else remotely care about.
You ruined the layout, made it impossible to read on my laptop and cellphone, and made it impossible to find anything.
You can't even view full size portraits anymore, it uses a 256x256 thumbnail with a round frame and you can't even tell who you're talking too.

1. Mobil portability
2. ISDs to stop locking threads and merge them instead.
3. A Search function that works.
4. Easier to find dev post.

and so on

Awesome. Now, why exactly do we need that?

Was it harder to fix search function here, or create a new forum?

LOL what? It is HARDER to find ANY post there. Including my own, which is super simple here.[

Ah, DeMichael Crimson. A name I've heard before in these dark waters.

*salutes by waving a bottle of rum*

As this forum ship loses its power and the lights dim, and before we head to the life pods, I can hear the panting and scuffling of those last brave forum privateers, battling it out in the hallways and corridors leading up to the bridge of this travel-scarred ship.

The picture on my monitor shows ships either side of my forum post heading in the other direction.
A fitting metaphor for my forum style, and an appropriate picture for our final forum flight.

Cyberspace is dark water.

Good luck to all who sail there.

AS another poster has already shown, your reasons are well, weak, to put it mildly.
Just how many resources in time and money did CCP burn on creating these new forums?

I'll give you 4, that's a valid addition with the dev posts button but it's partially defeated by how much harder it is to find threads wheeas here you go to your sub cat and it will just mark threads that have dev responses and in thread you can jump to that first post already.

I've never had trouble looking for posts pesonslly, 2 doesn't affect the userbase, but 1 is flat out wrong
The current "old" forums are better on mobile, it's easier to read and navigate in general and it's not zoomed in all the way with no options. Ive done my own tests between mobile, desktop, and desktop wide on my phone e and each one has its own separate list of problems and none of them are as simple as these forums. One load of the page here and I'm done. I can read the entire thread till I get to the next page. I have to stop every few posts and wait for the page to load on the new ones because the pages don't load in one go. They load incrementally and keep a constant connection open and you lose the top of the page if you scroll down far enough.
I already mentioned issues with the text box and the banner overlapping in my thread where I pointed out many issues with the new forums. I've mentioned the zoom here just now which makes it a pain to actually scroll through alot of posts and the worst thing I've found about it is there's no way to return to the top of the page. It's much easier to scroll here than there and the only way back up there is to force reload the page by manually deleting g the number of the post im on and substituting it with 1 for the original post which shouldn't be necessary on a properly designed mobile site. Not all phones have a built in feature to return to the top of the page like iphones.

A mobile site has failed entirely if it's more cumbersome and less user friendly than the default desktop site we have here now.

For the new forums if you go into settings there is a wide layout that I think works a bit better.

Will miss having separate pages for longer threads, with the endless scrolling everything just starts looking the same after a while.

that said I won't miss this forum eating my posts all the freaking time.

By reference, i am a profesional programmer and make forums in asp and php before (need multiple groups for some users and commercial packages have not). I had serious problems with stalkers, death threats, etc, and i know is easy put that 'problems' medium competent programmers can do without problem.

1 ) The problem of layout caan be done without programmiung, using a capable css designer. You are talking about portability but i doubt you have stats of the versions mobile models and systemusers was u getting. Look as a bad reason, principally because no much % of the users use mobile at the same time than play, then you know your users have a computer to play, but many, as me, dont use mobile, or at least Not when playing

2 ) Merge options of thread can be done very easily, the popular forums as Mybb have it, but is too simple to develope. ISD enter a special link they only say, one text ask for the target link to fusion, you get the number for the t parameter of the actual, and a eight line script to begin transaction "lock", merge", and finish trransaction. I assume you are using Sql server for aspx and other reasons, but in any database a competent ptogrammer can do in less than three hours, maybe talking about "wednesday forums will be offline for fixes", but is a non relevant answer

3 ) Me and others use somethig called google integrated search. Evebloggers.com use that. And any decent programmer can do an index for full text in some fields.

4 ) Using a join to find the group of the poster, and integrated in a search post sound very complex. Oh yess... and can autogenerate an index for that, as some blizzard fans do in blue.mmo-champion.com

All character bazaar done. Finally 39 pilot and 3 can be killed later. This account will be used only for forum interaction, fly safe.
