Just speculation, especially with the 'f2p' (soft) model CCP introduced.

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

I hope it is not the case though.

eve is so woven into everything CCP does, it would make more sense that CCP would sell CCP and not Eve.

Hopefully if it all goes to hell in a handbasket we can get to keep a playable game to keep, but I don't think eve is dead or near it anytime soon.

You "only" need about 100 million U.S. to buy controlling interest.
It is doubtful the valuation of the company is over 200 million U.S.

If I had the cash, it would be worth it just to have the null sec cartels wake up one say after DT to see every asset in a corp hangar, every ISK in a corp wallet, emptied out, and I would say HFTU.

But before that, harden every access point to the internet, do everything possible to protect against the inevitable DDOS and hacks.

Yeah, read that story when it came out, and laughed and laughed at the valuation.
2016 post tax earnings for CCP were 21M US , a record.

So if you assume a 10:1 ratio for earnings to value, you are looking at 210 M.
And given those profits were an all time high.....

Maybe they even had a buyer, but then halfthru the negotiations Hilmar walked in and said to the guy who negotiated for CCP "you have no balls", and cranked up the sell value. Maybe that is why we did not hear about it more.

No, you got wrong and it the other way around. An investor is interested in getting a bigger part of EVE to steer it in a certain direction. Probably trying to get a better profit margin. You might not like it but you won't be able to change it. Unless you ask God for a nerf, the rich guys are grabbing more of the players money like a bunch of nullsec carebears. And yes, you could skill and arm yourself but you know how it goes in EVE... :P
