Rogue Mess, I mean Swarm...

Hello my friends and fellow capsuleers.

I come to you today with some thoughts on this new Rogue Swarm event, thoughts that have been somewhat troubling me since I started engaging with this event.

While the event isn't bad, and is entertaining, I have to say that there are a few fails that I have found with it.

First and foremost, this event is simply too easy. Granted, the newbros need to have a chance at getting in on events like this, however folks like me would like something more challenging to give us more satisfaction out of our work. Tiered sites that increase in difficulty, much like the ratings of DED sites, would be a very nice way of doing these. There could be tiers from 1 (lowest difficulty) to 3 or 5 (highest) that have correspondingly better loot.

Next is the actual loot, itself. While I enjoy getting skins, some of which I will be keeping, the bulk of them will be sold on the market. And herein lies the problem. With such a huge influx of skins to the market, they gave been devalued to as low as 0.5% of their stated value. I have several Dreadnought, carrier, and Titan skins that are worth less than 1% of what they once were, yet there are still t1 destroyer skins going for hundreds of mil to over 1bil. Am I the only one looking at this and thinking that something doesn't add up? I'm all for making skins more available, but they should have been done so in a more sensible fashion. The drop rates should have been on a "Common>Uncommon>Rare>Rarest" setup, split up between Frigates/Destroyers/Cruisers, Battlecruisers/Battleships, Carriers/Dreadnoughts, and Supers (respectively). This would have, at the very least, kept the natural pyramid of value for these items in check (i.e all things Frigates and Destroyers are rather cheap while all things Supers are the most valuable). Instead, I have items for supers that are hardly worth the time I spent to get them. Even after the event is over, the market will be so flooded with these items that their value will likely never recover to anything of worth, making this whole thing a bust for anyone looking to make some money off of it.

Like I said, I don't hate this event. It is fun if you're just looking to pick up some skins for your own collection. But for folks like myself who are looking to make money off of this event, what incentive is there for me to continue doing it, instead of continuing to do my normal exploration? (Aye, exploration should always be more lucrative, but these events should hold at least some decent value to be worth doing.) I have no doubt that this event is "working as intended," I'm not concerned about the operation. It's the intent that troubles me. I feel like this was done haphazardly, even lazily, without any real regard for the market or the capsuleers.

When you see a capital module or item, you should normally think "KA-CHING!!"

Instead, all you get is a detached "Meh..."

Keeping the skins for smaller ships more expensive ensures that players will be buying PLEX and using large amounts of ISK to buy them.

These "issues" you bring up are inherent to pretty much every one of these seasonal events that have been run thus far.

These were skins that were removed from sale previously, their "value" is just an artefact of old prices

The skins and difficulty are just a pretext, maybe competing with other players is the real event...?

This is hilarious.

People keep bringing this up as if they think it's brand new information, and not the entire damn point.

The community spent how long raging at the moronic prices of spaceship palette swaps? Roll

You're not supposed to get rich off of these events. They're just a fun little mechanism for distributing some different loot while creating a bit of pewpew content between players.

Titan skins aren't worth **** and never have been though.
Theyre expensive on the store and there's no market for them because 99.999999999999% of players can't fly them.

The real issue is why aren't they dropping good skins.

I've run 170 of these for ugly poo colored valimor skins.
Let me get some Sarum, khanid, and imperial arms here.

I don't think that's what these events are for, so maybe that's why they feel underwhelming to you. Consider the following.

SKINs have no real mechanical value in game, so their value is always going to be weird as there's no stat or buff or ability they have to cement their usefulness in the same way ships or modules do. That's perhaps why their drop rate isn't tiered like that. It's not because CCP was lazy, just that it would make just as much sense to permit an equal chance for each SKIN to drop compared to any other SKIN, regardless as to whether a SKIN is for a sub-cap or a super. CCP's probably focusing more on encouraging you using the SKINs over just straight up selling them anyways.

As for the lack of challenge, CCP just doesn't want anyone to have any reason to avoid or fear them if that person is interested in running one. Hell, I'll bet you anything that if there was a way to let unarmed haulers run combat sites with any effect, CCP would code it, tie a cute bow on it, and throw it in at the next downtime. They want both Alphas and Omegas to be able to run them in decent time and without considerable risks to life and limb, though true enough that other players are a different matter all together.

I don't disagree that this site -- along with previous event sites -- is lacking in both difficulty and monetary worth to run, but I do disagree that such a reality is an issue as I believe they're not really meant to be challenging or lucrative.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

The event is obviously aimed at Alphas and new players. The rogue drones are roughly the same difficulty as the SOE Epic Arc and anyone who can complete that should have no difficulty unless they get a couple of "swarms" at the same time.

Once you have enough boosters to keep your accounts training until they expire, why not leave the rest of these sites for new players to enjoy?

Might want to check when all the event drone accelerators will stop working, friend.

You cant create pew pew if people dont run the sites, and people dont run sites where the rewards are meh. IMO with the exception of the first time these types of events were run (i forget what its called), CCP has not gotten the reward side of this type of event right. As a result, People have burned out on the event faster and faster. The pve is not interesting - its just tedious. People are not going to do grindy tedious pve unless there is a reasonable shot of getting something of value. And without a critical mass of people running the sites - there is no appreciable bump in pvp.

There's another thread two posts down whining about having to compete for sites. What?

I agree 100%, and mentioned basically the same thing on the feedback thread. The rarity distribution seems, if anything, to be inverted relative to the rarities of the ships the skins apply to. Given how there are so many of any frigate per any single titan or carrier, those high-tier ones (as you point out) will remain devalued essentially forever - even with the current proliferation of carrier-ratting (and if the nerf to that DOES in fact reduce the popularity of that, it will make those skins sit and rot for even longer.)
